Hi,
so I'm upgrading my computer and I thought it would be nice to make it compatible with OSx.

But I don't know what MB to choose. Here are my requirements:
- ATX
- around 130€, could be even 150€ if it's really worth it, cheaper is also okay (obviously)
- 1150 socket (4690k)
- supports some overclocking

What I don't care about:
- SLI / Crossfire
- WiFi
- Installing a few extra patches
- Brand

I already did some research, but I still don't have enough information. I don't know what the difference between 8 and 9 series is, also most MB's in that price bracket are nearly identical.
Some MB's do have a built in amplifier- that would be also nice, thought I'm not sure what quality they are.

Other components: R9 270, SSD

Thanks for any help.

I suggest taking a look at the buyers guide, as it was just updated for September. You will find it listed on the main page. There you will find a list of recommended motherboards for both 8 and 9 series. With the 9 series, you will need to patch the audio and onboard video if you wish to use it as OS X does not yet natively support the z97-x99 chipsets.

Gigabyte and Asus boards are what you will find recommended. Asrock boards can also work with a BIOS flash. SLI/Crossfire isn't a concern as OS X does not use either and the only boards that typically have build it wifi are the mATX and ITX boards. You would need to replace them anyways, as they are mostly incompatible Intel cards.

Thanks for the reply, but I already looked up the MB's and that's basically the reason I'm so confused. Just from Gigabyte there is
Code:
[B]Z97 -D3H[/B]
[B]Z97 -HD3[/B]
[B]Z97X-UD3H[/B]
[B]Z97X-UD5H[/B]
[B]Z87X-UD3H[/B]
+ some more, and even some from Asus.
They're all almost the same. But some people here have hopefully some experience and know wich boards are better or not so good.
