I have gone through the options to find the best configuration in the Buyer's guide to fit an i7 processor in this small space.

The CustoMac Mini Deluxe motherboard should fit easilly as the measurements are leaving 3 cm on each side and about 5 cm in the front of the case.

I intend to replace the screen with the 2 optical drives from my old G4 :

According to amazon France (yes I'm a Froggy) the cost between the different parts would be 689.93 Euros

I would be grateful to know if someone finds that there is an issue with this project before spending anything.

I've seen that using a Macintosh SE was already done in the mods section, the variations around incorporating a recent flat screen to replace the crt where the obvious method to keep the old look.

I definitely dont need to add a 9 inch screen and my idea to use the DVD burner mirror facia of the G4 wont work because its leaving a big gap and the 2 optical drives are so big that they take too much space in the box.

I am going to use only 1 optical drive and this is going to be a new one as I didnt realised that the motherboard was using a sata port rather than an ide.

I have created in Illustrator a mock up of what I am going to order which is a design to be be cut in a piece of oak. this is a working progress, the maze needs to be completed.

The Apple logo mixed with the one from the London Underground will hide the DVD tray, what's represented in black is going to be a few millimeter deep in the piece of oak and the curvature of the old screen will be kept.

I just realised that the Buyer's guide is a Bible, the search that I made about the optical drives gave me no answers certainly because I didn't use the right words.

Buying the DVD burner in France is more expensive than choosing the Blue Ray, even thought I dont own any Blue Ray the choice is obvious.

The Buyer's Guide is just that - a guide to parts known to work and generally available worldwide.
Other parts will work just as well in a lot of cases. For instance, for a plain DVD burner that works and supports sleep and is available in France, try http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B00EV2WBDC/?tag=tonymacx8607-21
For a blu-ray that also works try http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B00H2GTXKS/?tag=tonymacx8607-21

http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B009GV7ZQG/?tag=tonymacx8607-21 was used in a build - http://www.tonymacx86.com/user-buil...ld-i7-4770k-ga-z87x-ud3h-16gb-ram-gtx760.html

Many thanks, the Pioneer DVR-221 is on its way.

sometimes the informations on the Amazon description are worrying, the dimensions where certainly for the box with 200 x 250 x 60 mm I googled the item number and the other sellers are giving some standarts dimensions...

To begin with I thought about fixing the motherboard at the bottom of the case but it makes a lot more sense to place it like loftman did http://www.tonymacx86.com/others/88056-customac-mini-2012-macintosh-se-casing.html is this the right approach for the airflow?

I've read as well about using an additional ventilation, could this be placed on the back of the case and being efficient?

Building a Hackintosh would never have been an option for me if this website was not existing, this build will take a few months to be finished as the parts will be bought one by one but there is no hurry, my MacBook Pro is showing some signs of tiring but still works with some 350 Mo photoshop files.

The evolution of the case is continuing in the mods section.

Were I doing it, I would try to use the same layout as the original parts as closely as possible. I would say your best bet is to post your proposed build in the Case Mods forum and post pics and get advice as you go and have a good record of what you did. Other modders down the road will appreciate it.

I tried to put the motherboard on the base like it was for the SE/30 but there is too many issues with the available space.

Eventually to add up a graphic card later on I am going to leave 5 cm under the power supply and the motherboard will be vertical near the front of the case which means that I will have to create a well for the connexions.

The new power supply from the Buyer's guide is not available in France thought I found this one http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B002ZO7RLE/?tag=tonymacx8607-21 the only issue being that it's not modular but there will be some place left undernath even when the graphic card will be installed.

A ventilator from the same brand will extract the hot air at the top under the handle http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B000EBFXSO/?tag=tonymacx8607-21

I can recommend the http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B007RUR8OW/?tag=tonymacx8607-21 - I used it in a Lian Li PC-TU200 case with the P8Z77-I mITX board

That's some good dimensions, what is the method to start the computer when there isn't a switch like on this one ?

I might make some modifications on the build, the SE/30 is too small to use a motherboard like the one from the CustoMac mATX but to start with before receiving this box I was intending to build a wooden and plexiglas case.

The possibility to add some PCI cards and reaching 32 Go of ram is tempting me to extend the SE/30 on the right hand side with a wooden extension of 6 cm that would fit precisely. The motherboard would be further separated from the power supply and would be vertical.

I have just created a crude mockup of what it would look like, I will post the real pictures in the mods section as a working progress.
