I'm trying to upgrade my Z68X-UD3H-B3 from F12 to UEIF, and I've followed the instructions found on this site to create a bootable DOS USB, but it doesn't want to boot into it. Every time I try I press F12 and tell it to boot from the USB, but then it just doesn't boot. I've re-created the USB a dozen times using different methods, so I think the USB is set up correctly, I just can't get the computer to boot into it. Any help out there?

You shouldn't need a bootable flash drive - Just boot into your BIOS then load the image from the USB.

Apparently with the 6-series motherboards you do. When I try using the flash tool in the BIOS I get an error.

I just looked at the manual for the Z68X-UD3H-B3 on the Gigabyte website : Link

"1. From GIGABYTE's website, download the latest compressed BIOS update file that matches your moth- erboard model.
2. Extract the file and save the new BIOS file (e.g. z68xud3h.f1) to your USB flash drive or hard drive. Note: The USB flash drive or hard drive must use FAT32/16/12 file system.
3. Restart the system. During the POST, press the <End> key to enter Q-Flash. Note: You can access Q-Flash by either pressing the <End> key during the POST or pressing the <F8> key in BIOS Setup. However, if the BIOS update file is saved to a hard drive in RAID/AHCI mode or a hard drive attached to an independent SATA controller, use the <End> key during the POST to access Q-Flash."

Good Luck

That works for updating BIOS (i.e. F10 to F12), but not for updating from BIOS to UEFI. Apparently you need to use the DOS USB boot method, but I can't seem to get my DOS USB stick to boot.

P1LGRIM,
ian.miller is correct on having to use a special DOS application that comes with the UEFI BIOS to install the UEFI BIOS.

BTW, I, too, created (several) USB thumb drive(s) but could not get it to boot.

The very first time I created the DOS USB it seemed to work fine and I was able to boot into it, but I couldn't remember the DOS commands and therefore couldn't remember how to execute the commands to run the UEFI Flash, then every time since then I can't seem to get it to run. I've tried several USBs, many times.

I can run FreeDOS from the CD drive as well, but then I can't navigate to the USB stick where the UEFI Flash is saved, unless someone knows a trick for how to do that?

Any other ideas for me to get the UEFI installed?

Ah, solved!

Stupid me! The was a usb hub with license keys connected via usb port. Haven't remaked them before... Removed it, and than FreeDOS on the flash-drive booted smoothly. :)

Problem was:

"Same problem here, and same MoBo.... Fiddling arround for 2 days now, still not able to boot FreeDOS from the flash-drive.

Did you figure out what the problem was?

Thanks a lot!"

Can you elaborate on your solution? I don't understand it. I am having the same problem with the same motherboard. Thank you.
