Thanks to tony and his guides I have a completely working 10.6.2 install with the exception of audio. Audio on my motherboard is handled by by the VIA 1828S chipset for which I have not been able able to find a solution for. I have read that some people have limited success using VoodooHDA but I have not had such luck, and even when that works apparently the audio is squeaky or crackly.

If anyone knows of a solution, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try the Azalia audio kext from kexts.com- I just found this article on Asus VIA audio:

Thanks tony I tried the Azalia kext and had no luck with it. As someone suggested I also tried changing OSX to 32bit mode and trying VoodooHDA again, this actually seemed to work because I had input and output devices showing up, but when OSX was booting I could hear a pop out of my speakers and then my computer wouldn't output sound in OSX or Windows, until I shut the machine down and unplugged the power.

I had the same probleme with a P7P55D LE, it's seem to be a bios problem. But the sound works after unplugged power cable.

Did you get your sound working in OSX after Qpertino? Or do you mean you just got it working again in windows?

Yes lifer86, I get it Working in OSX (I use the VoodooHDA.kext) and Windows too.

in 64 or 32bit?
i have the same board, tried to put VooDooHDA.kext in extra/extensions but this didn't work, then i installed the kext via kext helper, always running kext utility and repair permissions afterward

after i installed the kext via kext helper, it was doing some stuff during bootup, but ended with a message about something like "db values not found, using default.."

all in all, i didn't get it to work :(

any input on what i may have done wrong would be appreciated

I ended up getting sound working after all. Although sometimes on boot I will get the no sound issue, but it will go away if I shut the computer down and turn the power supply switch off.

I used the newest VoodooHDA.kext from http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=355
and I installed it in 32bit mode, but I don't know if that was actually required as it still works when I switched back to 64bit mode.
