z87mx-d3h and i5-4670k 10.9.3 update error unknown cpu model 0x3c

My computer includes a z87mx-d3h and an i5-4670k cpu and I'm trying to update from 10.9.2 to 10.93. I get the following error after applying the combo package update: 'getCPUIDInfo: this is an unknown CPU model 0x3c'. I had a similar problem when originally installing mavericks(10.9.0) onto my computer after building it and my solution was to use the DVI cable instead of the VGA but this doesn't seem to help me this time around as I've currently booted using only the DVI cable.

Current things I've tried:
- Double check video cable
- Boot in verbose and safe mode and non safe mode

I got it to work after reinstalling my drivers with multibeast on 10.9.2 then updating to 10.9.3 was no sweat.
