Hello,

First of all sorry for my English.

Recently bought an Asus Z690M-Plus D4 and just get stuck with a problem.

Let's start from my configuration.

Asus Z690M-Plus D4

Intel i7-12700KF

RX 6600 Sapphire Pulse

Monterey 12.4 (Tried with 12.2 and 12.3 also)

The problem is the next one:

Sometimes, looks like random, when I boot the system from a Cold Boot (Not sure if it happens too with restart, doesn't look like).

When the system is supposed to load the graphics, it just get black screen after 3/4 from load bar.

Got me thinking that I miss "agdpmod=pikera", but no, that is not the case.

Then it takes several restarts to get into the system, but when it finally boot everything works fine.

But i get a kernel report that seems to point to framebuffer from 6600.

I tried with 2 different RX 6600 same thing happen, but tried also with RX 5500 and RX 560 and no problem

I attatch the kernel and my EFI.

Let me know if you need more info.

Any help would be nice.

Thank you very much!

Have you had a look at this thread here?

@Pin3ro, how did you setup your BIOS? (What version of BIOS are you using?)

I can't seem to find anybody's BIOS setup for the Asus Z690M-PLUS.

I can't seem to find anybody's BIOS setup for the Asus Z690M-PLUS.

I tried different versions and all of them worked well without problem.

I keep my config pretty basic, there it goes.

Ai Tweaker

  • Ai Overclock Tuner -- XMP II
  • ASUS MultiCore Enhancement -- Enabled - Remove All limits
  • Performance Core Ratio -- Sync All Cores
  • Efficient Core Ratio -- Sync All Cores

Advanced
  • CPU Configuration
    • Intel (VMX) Virtualization Technology – Disabled
  • CPU – Power management control
    • Intel(R) SpeedStep(tm) – Enabled
    • Intel(R) Speed Shift Technology – Enabled
    • Intel(R) Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 – Enabled
    • CPU C-states – Enabled
  • System Agent (SA) Configuration
    • VT-d – Enabled
  • PCI Subsystem Settings
    • Above 4G Decoding – Enabled
  • Onboard Device Configuration/Serial Port Configuration
    • Serial Port – Disabled

Boot
  • CSM
    • Launch CSM – Disabled
  • Secure Boot
    • OS Type – Windows UEFI mode

Everything else I keep it on default

I'm actually using the 2212 version of BIOS.

Which BIOS version are you using right now?

Also, what was the fix for your RX 6600 issue mentioned in post #4 above.

Thanks
I'm actually using the 2212 version of BIOS.

For the RX 6600, i did not find any solution, i tried flashing another BIOS for the graphic card but nothing change. I notice that it did not happen with older versions of chipset like Z490.

Other than that its pretty random, on some motherboards work on other not.

For example, i'm building a Z790 creator with RX 6600 and it is working fine for now... no sense
