z170x catalina 10.15.5 fresh install hangs at apfs_module_start with opencore

Trying to take a previously working hardware configuration from Sierra/High Sierra and complete a fresh install substituting an AMD RX580.

GA-Z170X-Designare | i7 6700K | Radeon RX 580 GTS XXX Edition | Samsung 960 EVO 1TB

I'm sure I'm doing something stupid but I'm missing the connection on how to move my rebuild forward.
I'd love a pointer to RTFM I've been going in circles for a few days reading forum posts and I don't know if I'm even searching in the right direction.

I've tried the prebuilt SSDT-EC-USBX and SSDT-PLUG; I tried adding SSDT-EC, SSDT-PLUG, etc from SSDTTime.

I also have 'vscm disabling itself due to multiple devices present' I just don't know if that is related.

If SSDT-EC.aml does not help then you may need this patch :

FIX for boot hangs after BIOS update (ACPI PATCH)

This is an ACPI Patch for the people who update to the last bios and can't boot. My board is the MSI B360A-Pro and has the latest bios 7B22v27. First add the patch (the blue line from the picture) to clover config, then apply the Bios update. To easily add the patch using terminal, read post #48

unfortunately that didn’t have any appreciable impact.

I subsequently went down the rabbit hole of ACPI patches, I can’t find that HEX to replace in my DSDT.

I do have H_EC and attempted to rename H_EC to EC but I’m still missing something.
