I know a LOT of you are chomping at the bit to hit that bleeding edge and upgrade your studio rig to Yosemite within hours/days/weeks after release.

Historically, most DAWs and related music apps (plug-ins, VSTs, etc) are not fully supported the day that Apple releases a new OS.

So before you upgrade, please take a moment to make sure all of your software apps, plus your hardware (and related drivers) have all been tested and certified Yosemite-compatible before you make the move. Note that IF your music apps get certified as compatible with Yosemite, that compatibility may require you to install an updater or a patch.

Sure...you may luck out and certain basic functions may work, but as you dig deeper into your projects, you'll start finding things that don't work/don't work correctly....or you'll even start to have lockups.

The folks at Pro-Tools-Expert.com have put together a list of about 8 top names and initial compatibility reports. You can read more here:

UPDATE 23Oct2014: I just stumbled across a more comprehensive Yosemite compatibility thread on DAWs/plugs/VSTs and music hardware from the folks at Sweetwater: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/yosemite-mac-os-x-10-10-compatibility-information/

I've been getting emails all week from many of the vendors whose products I own - giving me the latest updates & compatibility reports. Here are some of the links & information that I've collected thus far:

AVID/Pro Tools, Euphonix/EUCON (not compatible yet):
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/...ia-Composer-Pro-Tools-Sibelius-EUCON-and-ISIS

Waves plugins (UPDATE 23Oct2014: Compatible!): http://www.waves.com/osx-yosemite

Digital Performer (working but requires an update to 8.0.7): http://www.motu.com/newsitems/motu-and-os-x-yosemite

Focusrite audio interfaces (FW/USB), audio plugs, and misc devices (some working, some not): http://us.focusrite.com/answerbase/...e=emailCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=

Native Instruments plugins & hardware (plugs yes, hardware - depends - maybe): http://www.native-instruments.com/e...3/mac-os-x-10.10-yosemite-compatibility-news/

Spectrasonics Omnisphere, Trillian, & Stylus RMX (should work - make sure you have latest versions of your software): http://www.spectrasonics.net/support/knowledgebase_view_topic.php?id=592&categoryID=84

Good luck & happy music making!!

Thanks for the info! Although for music making at least, i will stay with ML 10.8.5. Never in much of a hurry to break the studio for some changed icons!
Performance wise does anyone notice any benefits of Yosemite? Who has loaded their DAWS and done a proper test drive? :headbang:

Given the information above, probably still too soon to tell yet...

What's the latest on this? I've finished building a z97/4790K system for Logic Pro X and i'm now wondering which is the most stable/compatible OS to install on it. Currently I only have access to Mountain Lion, but i've read of issues with that OS on the latest Z97 hardware i've gone with. If I try to get hold of Yosemite then i'm worried Logic X and my Motu 828 Mk3 might have problems. ?

Since Logic X is an Apple product, you should be OK with Yosemite + Logic. I've not looked at MOTU's Web site yet to see about Yosemite-compatible drivers for their interfaces. If they have drivers for your 828 that are certified compatible, then 10.10.1 would be cool. Just make sure that any/all other VSTs or effects plug-ins are also certified good-to-go with Yosemite.

hackintosh powerfull workstation combinations!!!

Hi BoomR,

I absolutely need a 64gb of Ram or even more hackintosh. I'm working with a very mem hungry sound library by east west (hollywood orchestra) in logic pro so I need a motherboard that can be upgraded, has usb 3 on board etc.

What's about x10dax vs x9dai vs X8DTi E-ATX by supermicro?
What motherboard do you think is at the same time up to date & realistic to make a hackintosh runing yosemite for audio production (external usb or firewire) and update it in the future? I checked on your forum some guys trying succesfully with a x10dax! Tha fact is that the new trash can by mac is not upgradable, and to my eyes it does not seem like a powerful piece of hardware... and the money to invest is in disproportion with that!

So: supermicro x10dax vs x9dai vs X8DTi E-ATX for a hackintosh workstation? Who wins the race? Or if you have other sucefull combinations for a workstation hackintosh please send me your advice!

Those all seem to be dual CPU server-class motherboards. I have no experience with building anything with those.

There is an "experimental" thread on using the new single CPU X99-class motherboards, but again, that is still in the "experimental" phase as X99 and the new Haswell-E 6- and 8-core processors are not technically supported by Apple in OS X. So anything you could get is not fully optimized and guaranteed to be compatible as a Hackintosh.

See my post #25 in this thread: http://www.tonymacx86.com/buying-ad...al-editing-any-chance-hackintosh-success.html

User has a similar use case with very demanding workloads & needs super-high end system.

Thank you BoomR. I hope to get it done with X8DTi E-ATX anyway as being the oldest one.
