This thread is meant to be support/discussion for X299 motherboards :

it not only means ASUS X299 motherboards but also other brands such as GIGABYTE , ASROCK, EVGA, MSI (...)

The goal is to keep the support for these motherboards alive, publish updates, configurations, hardware, and so on.

It is the continuation of the previous threads.

All the support will be added and linked on my GitHub repo.

So today with macOS Big Sur we're going to start a new forward-looking experience :

macOS Big Sur :

Installation with Open Core OC 0.6.3

EFI OC 0.6.3 structure with the minimum SSDTs :

Capture d’écran 2020-08-07 à 00.45.41.png

Users with bios V2002 or V3006 must respectively add :

SSDT-RTC0-RANGE-v2002 or SSDT-RTC0-RANGE-v3006 to boot.

Reminder Big Sur installation process post : #65

I will edit this first post with the return of experience and the new features macOS Big Sur :

For example :
- The root volume is now a cryptographically sealed apfs snapshot. Every single bit of the fsroot tree and file contents are verified when they are read from disk.
- It is no longer possible to boot a "live" filesystem, that is, one which can be written to.
- You can instead disable authentication of the root volume by booting to recovery and running `csrutil authenticated-root disable` in Terminal.

This thread is open to constructive discussions to keep our systems up to date.

It means that is a collaborative thread and each user is strongly invited to contribute and help.

All users are asked to give us their valuable feedback.

Signed system volume
macOS Big Sur introduces a cryptographically signed system volume that protects against malicious tampering. It also means that your Mac knows the exact layout of your system volume, allowing it to begin software updates in the background while you work.

APFS snapshot :
Screenshot 2020-08-07 at 10.20.47.png

Fixing APFS Snapshot Procedure
  1. Boot into the Big Sur installer USB
  2. Open a terminal, type `csrutil disable` and reboot
  3. When back into the installer, run `diskutil list` to find the location of the “Big Sur" disk, such as disk5s5
  4. Mount it using `diskutil mountDisk <disk identifier>` such as `diskutil mountDisk disk5s5` then run `mount -uw <volume mount point>` such as `mount -uw /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/` to mount it as read write
  5. Run `/System/Library/Filesystems/apfs.fs/Contents/Resources/apfs_systemsnapshot -v <volume mount point> -r ""`
  6. Then, to delete the snapshots on the disk, run `diskutil apfs listSnapshots <volume mount point>` and take note of each UUID of the snapshots
  7. Run `diskutil apfs deleteSnapshot <volume mount point> -uuid <uuid of snapshot>` for all snapshots on the disk.
  8. Verify that there are no more snapshots by running `diskutil apfs listSnapshots <volume mount point>` it should return "No Snapshots for disk"
  9. Reboot into the Big Sur desktop and make sure that running `sudo mount -uw /` returns no errors and that running `diskutil info /` returns a disk such as disk5s5 and not a snapshot such as disk5s5s1

Some important notes:
1. Users that updated their BIOS to 3006 or higher on pre Cascade Lake X motherboards needed to add SSDT-AWAC.aml to boot macOS Catalina/Mojave. Same with all Cascade Lake X refresh motherboards. For Big Sur, SSDT-AWAC is replaced with SSDT-RTC0.aml since Big Sur is a lot more picky with RTC. Asus didn't map regions 0x72 and 0x73 so the SSDT-RTC0.aml adds those regions in. Like @Loloflatsix mentioned, there are two versions of SSDT-RTC0 on my github. SSDT-RTC0-NOAWAC.aml (BIOS 2002 and below) and SSDT-RTC0.aml (BIOS 3006 and higher or all Cascade Lake X motherboards).
2. OpenCore 0.6.0 is required to boot Big Sur and lilu kexts may not be compatible yet (I.E., MacProMemoryNotificationDisabler.kext). Refer to Dortania's OpenCore Guide Big Sur section for more details.

Installation Guide:

My github will no longer be updated. Refer to post

Original @kgp guides: Largely outdated due to majority of users have moved onto OpenCore and SSDT/ACPI patches are not required and are largely cosmetic. However, there is still useful information such as BIOS settings, activating Thunderbolt, and patching Intel 10G.

Yeah welcome everyone! It's good to have a single place for everythin Asus/X299/OC/macOS. We should link this in the other 3 threads and maybe ask 'em to close those old threads to let everyone join this new one.

It's also a savvy thing to get a repo (@djlild7hina one) to store and share all of the needed files or EFIs. Safe haven for Asus X299!

If you guys want to close the other threads that's okay with me. Only thing is Big Sur is still in it's first beta so it might be better to wait. Anyone else have feedback?

Also in the process of selling my motherboard and cpu so won't be as much help so feel free to clone my github or whatever you guys need to do

Great initiative @Loloflatsix @djlild7hina.
A bit concerned by the idea of closing other threads if this one is only dedicated to ASUS X299. I know there's a Thread for Gigabyte X299X that @dolgarrenan started but it only concerns newer Boards/CPUs. AFAIK The gap between this new generation of GIGABYTE Mobos and older Models ( Mine is less than 2 years old ) is bigger that the x299 ASUS & any other Mobos. There's also the other ones ( ASROCK; EVGA, MSI, SuperMicro ). I'm not a big fan of division/ leaving behind the others or creating multiple threads for X299 but I understand if you would.
The KGP thread was trying to help everyone. Remember?

Allright your opinion is fair enough  :
Because at the same time I manage the installation on my EVGA X299 FTWK and Gigabyte X299 UD4 : the OC 0.6.0 EFI file I use is very closed to the ASUS X299 Prime D.
The latest bios from the EVGA allows disable CfgLock and the installation becomes easier.
So I can help for other brands like I did for Asrock X299 Creator too a few month ago. [ #64 ]
It therefore requires reflection

Good points @Ellybz . If @Loloflatsix could consolidate and update info for the other manufacturers then this could be a full X299 thread rather than just asus X299. It was already a lot of work helping with just asus X299 and updating my github. But again it’s up to you guys how you want to handle :)

@djlild7hina & @Loloflatsix

If I'm not busy, I'll also be more than happy to help X299 Gigabyte owners. This X299 platform is very easy compare to Asus. Only 2 SSDTs, no headache with Bios and everything works well with Big Sur: AppleTV, BT, Sleep functions, DRM viewing, Screen Mirroring ( I don't have a Wifi Card ). Even IMessage/Facetime which were a pain on Mojave/Catalina are flawless on Big Sur. Go Figure, Lol.
and yes, running stable 18 cores @ 5Ghz on GA WU-8 with a simple AIO Cooler. ( VRM cooling is excellent )
CineBench scores later ;). A bit low/too hot for the summer..

supercool! How did u populate PCI devices with no SSDTs? Did you use Device Properties in OpenCore? How do you use the 4 x nvme card? just for more storage or is actually your boot drive in RAID? because I read everywhere that is not possible to boot macos from a RAID 0 drive.
