After a month now:
At this point, I should expect more comments from Big Sur Public Beta 1, as a reminder if this thread should be the continuity for X299 platform , it is obviously mainly about managing the installation of MacOs Big Sur.
In the same way as Apple wants as many users as possible to test macOS Big Sur to provide constructive feedback before the official release later this fall :
After you've installed the public beta, let us know how it's going!
The goal is to adopt Big Sur soon or later as our main system.
So I give you my feedback :
I managed the installation on three builds on reserved SSDs :
- Gigabyte X299 UD4 , i5 7640X , AMD RX 560 ( first test build)
- Asus X299 Prime Deluxe , i9 7940X, AMD RX 570 (Vega 56 out)
- EVGA X299 FTW-K, i7 7820X, AMD RX 580 SE ( my DAO/CAO work station)
(not tested yet on my main system Gigabyte X299 Aorus UG Pro , i9 9940X , 2 x Vega 56)
I used OC 0.6.0/0.6.1 EFI shared on my Github.
- The installation is about similar on each system (finally easy) , the process time as explainned in four step and about 40 min .
- After adjusting settings , the boot time is simmilar on Catalina
- The new features are very nice and the new look is resolutely modern
- Some known bugs are still present : clock adjustment, brightness control, Wifi card compatibility
- The system seems faster than before, and stable
- Power management needs to be tested longer
- Most applications used on Mojave or Catalina are compatible but some must be uspdated .
- Installing kext or application is supervised by the system itself which allows the user to rebuild the cache per terminal and restart after to finalise .
So now it's up to you, start and tell us
