Did you try the EFI from my previous post? There were some changes in the BIOS related to MSR lock and AWAC that Big Sur is picky with.

Like I said earlier, if Big Sur Recovery loads fine try doing a clean install on a spare drive to see if it loads. Might be an issue with an incompatible kext or something.
With my EFI the system boots Recovery correctly.
With my EFI the system gets stuck at the image below.
With your EFI the system reboots into a loop.

I have a Bios 1704. Is it too old?
Should I progress to a new Bios?
Which Bios version would you suggest?

Was this on a clean install? or just trying to boot your current installation?

Yeah try ver 3301

I believe the X299-A has the BIOS Flashback button so you can revert back if necessary

Jeez man, two PMs, and the same post in two threads? I've posted here every day for weeks, you don't need to scream to get a reply :p

Anyway, obviously the EFI I posted works fine for me. However you have an X5700. So try adding boot arg agdpmod=pikera

Also, I uploaded a more recent EFI than that - there's one dated 23rd November, in this thread. It's 99% identical, but the 23/11/20 EFI is the one I used to update to Big Sur, so I'd use that one to be safe. I've re-attached it here.

This EFI has AirportItlwm disabled, as the kext included is still for Catalina. That will need to be updated to the BigSur version if you plan to enable AirportItlwm. But I don't recommend enabling it for install/update, only once the Big Sur install is known to be working fine.
Hello TheBloke,
I am trying to adopt your EFI to my new rig I'm building, but the installation freezes right at the SMCSuperIO entry.
There are some slight differences between our configurations, I wonder if you could give me an advice on how to proceed. Mine is Designare EX vs 10G of yours, and I have i9-9960, this I don't think should matter.
I'm not re-attaching the EFI because this is exactly what I downloaded from your post.

Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

I was asking if there's a preferred Bios version to install.
Thanks I go with 3301.

This is an upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur and not a clean install.
The Catalina Backup boots up regularly as the Big Sur Recovery does.

Thanks!

Yeah try 3301 and my original BASE-EFI with the recommended BIOS settings. If that doesn't work, try doing a clean install to see if it installs.

Hi there,

I've installed the new Bios ver 3301. I modified all the values to match your suggestions.
Unluckily Big Sur still doesn't boot. See attachments using VirtualSMC and FakeSMC.
I tried to see if it made any difference.

I'm now progressing to creating a USB installer and trying to perform a clean install.
Thanks a lot.

No, same issue installing through Big Sur Installer.
The installer booted correctly, I formatted the drive then proceeded.
After a few reboots the macOS Installer disappeared signalling a completed installation BUT the system is still not booting. It getsa stuck as before.

I'm not sure what is going on.
Any idea?
