X299 Big Sur Support

So, this is what I'd try, if you haven't already:
  1. In Big Sur, start the 11.1 update.
  2. At the first reboot, choose "Macintosh HD" entry if you have it - not your normal NVMe entry.
  3. Take a note of how long it takes - you should see verbose boot log messages for at least a minute or two, and if you can read them they'll talk about moving files or something along those lines.
  4. If after auto reboot you still have a Macintosh HD entry, choose it again.
  5. After one or two reboots in total you'd expect the next reboot to only have your normal SSD/NVMe boot entry. If it still says Macintosh HD after two reboots in total, it's likely not working (but still try selecting it one more time)
  6. When you reach a boot where only your NVMe/SSD entry is listed, choosethat, and you'll get a slow progress bar, possibly with "X minutes remaining", but possibly not (I think mine didn't have it).
  7. After that you'll be in to the OS, and hopefully on 11.1.

If one of you guys with issues could try that and report back, I'll investigate if necessary. If you try that and you still can't apply the update, then yeah I guess there is still an NVRAM issue. Maybe a new msu-product-url NVRAM key needs to be set, different for each update process.

I tried your suggestion going from 11.0.1 to 11.1 and it worked. Thanks!

My steps using opencore 0.6.4 in verbose mode on my ASRock X299E-ITX/ac board without working NVRAM:

1. start update in Big Sur
2. after first reboot chose the new entry "Macintosh HD" -> then took about 10min with lots of messages
3. after second reboot (had to power off as the reboot was not rebooting properly) chose my usual disk entry as "Macintosh HD" was gone -> some messages -> normal progress indicator that seemed stuck at roughly 10% -> took about an additional 10min
4. i think it rebooted again but am not sure as i left the room briefly
5. Big Sur 11.1 started with usual selection screens (Siri, iCloud etc) as usual after an update

-> working System :)

@TheBloke What did you have to change to update to OC 0.6.4, Or Haven't you updated yet?

Code:
<key>BootProtect</key>
            <string>Bootstrap</string>

            <key>RequestBootVarRouting</key>
            <true/>

EDIT: nvm it was easy

Hello
I can't see 11.1 update  in System Preferences

Any advice ?
Thanks in advance

Has anyone with ASUS ROG STRIX X299-E Gaming (it has a working NVRAM) upgraded successfully from Big Sur 11.0.1 to 11.1?
Asked and answered: I upgraded to 11.1 successfully. No issues.
Initiated update from inside Big Sur. After it booted I saw a new boot device “Macintosh HD” which was set to boot automatically. I let it boot, after reboot I saw the original SSD as default boot device again. It booted and then rebooted again and after a while I got the login screen back.

Just to say thanks to @TheBloke as the solution helped my X99 hack as well. Now I am with Big Sur 11.1....

Ok nevermind, it's definitely an USB + GPU issue. After hour spent googling, definitely is a problem caused by some sort of USB Audio + GPU issue. I can confirm this because audio rattling occurs when GPU si doing something (VP9 decode for example, but you really simply need to move a finder window to engage the problem). That said, anyone here with a Radeon VII + any kind of USB audio interface? I think Apple tests only the officially supported GPUs prior to release an update and then patches here and there 'cause 11.0.1 worked good. Anyway I'll not continue reporting here unless somebody shows he cares, don't wanna spam :p
I have the same GPU and two usb DACs. No problems with either one.

Oh Lord, really? could u please share your EFI? It could be a manufacturer issue, mine is MSI, yours?

crackling occurs only when GPU is utilized, cannot be a coincidence, don't you think?

Sure,

Like I said earlier, I had crackling issues with my usb DACs before I turned off serial devices in bios - that was with any mac os version.

Config without platforminfo.

My VII is powercolor

Disabled serial port, tried with and without both AppleALC and WEG —> unsolved

strangely, a vp9 YouTube video makes the audio crackling but an avc1 (h264) one is perfect. Just playing music crackles but with a YouTube video avc1 or a Netflix h264 playing simultaneously all the rest goes totally fine. And more... sometimes if I reboot, my board displays the error code 97 which is, according to some googleing, related to issues with GPU.

All of this started with 11.1, no troubles at all with 11.0.1

@TheBloke I keep getting Kp's on reboot and **** but no big deal. I'm trying to to get the speed I had on Catalina but with the F3c mod you uploaded Im getting performance issues. Im also trying to OC and I seen somewhere in this thread were you might have came across a bios Version that will successfully boot. Can you take a look at my EFI when you get a chance. Thanks in advance...
