Hi all,

I'm scratching my head so hope someone can help here. Setup:
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R rev 1 F5
Gigabyte 9800GT GV-N98TSL-1GI - 1 GB (PCIe)
Intel Core i7-920
trying to load 10.8.2

The unibeast install failed every time just before the GUI install screen appeared, and thanks to "alogon" user this i fixed by removing the four Nvidia kexts from the Unibeast installation. The four kexts removed were:
/System/Library/Extensions/NVDAGF100Hal.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/NVDAGK100Hal.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/NVDANV50Hal.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/NVDAResman.kext

With that removed i have a fully functional install which i can boot from the USB Unibeast and then select the hard drive. My problem now is I'm finding it impossible to create a correct bootloader to make the beast boot directly from the hard drive. Maybe naively I thought I could use multibeast, add the DSDT for my motherboard, and then delete those four offending kexts from the extensions folder but that doesnt make the bootloader run; it halts at the apple logo. I also tried running multibeast and then installing gigabytes 10.8.2 graphics card driver but no success. Moreover, as soon as i use multibeast then afterwards I cannot boot back at all into the hard drive even using the USB unibeast then selectring the hard drive: instead i have to go through the whole reinstall of OS from USB to get back to a starting position and try something else, which is a long job.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? I'm so close its frustrating not being able to make the bootloader and then lose an hour reinstalling....
thanks in advance hopefully!

What happens when you boot verbose -v ?
Your bootloader is running. How do you think you got to Apple logo?
Why did you remove those kexts ?
What is a gigabytes 10.8.2 driver ?
Did you remove those kexts from installer ? I hope not.
You need those kexts.
Your video card should work with just graphics enabler = yes.
If it causes problems do a search on the forum, somebody probably fixed it. (it is a fairly common card)
Also take a look at Tonymac wiki for card. Another place is OSX86.org. Only follow links that use Tonymac.
You should put those kexts back in and boot verbose.

Is your hard drive a large sector drive (boot 0 error). I do not think that is the problem.
Your hard drive must be named Mountain Lion and be the first and only drive. Install should be in first partition.
Check bios all the time. Install resets things there, sometimes to things that do not work.

It is not clear if you are using DSDT at this point.
Best practice is use EasyBeast. Just install one feature at a time. Video first obviously.
Many times you can do just a VESA install with onboard video. this will give you fixed video and no acceleration but a working machine. then try video card.

Did you install chimera?

Ok so work in progress: using either Easybeast or Multibeast with DSDT makes the system hang upon boot, clearly because they put those kext back. What has worked is only installing chimera, the fakesmc kext, and the ethernet enabler kext. The system will then boot from hard drive, so I have then installed the official 10.8.2 graphics drivers from Nvidia's website.

So it seems like everything works fine - with just this setup do i need to be worrying that other settings are missing? Its reading the RAM and processor speed correctly, graphics are fine after installing Nvidias drivers. I'm loath to try Easy/Multibeast and have it fill the extensions folder with the wrong graphics kexts again as it means I have to reinstall OS and then go through every step painstakingly.

Hope that answers your questions! I'm kinda there now if you see my earlier post, just wondering what I'm missing by not having the DSDT.

Quite a bit - native power management for one. Your GA-X58A-UD3R is the little brother of the -UD7 I have and should work just fine with the patched DSDT from the forum database.

The only problem I can forsee for you in ML is the 9800GT. That card was a PITA in Lion and may no longer be supported in ML. Google is your friend there.

Yep, you are right; all worked well until 10.7.2. Anyway, it seems to be chugging along now. So I managed to plug the DSDT in. My kexts are listed below and altho I don't know how to read the numbers after each entry I reckon this is working fine, CPU management is listed etc: does it look good for you/anything obvious missing? Thanks for your help, its really appreciated!
