Hi everyone, I'm pretty new here, and was hoping to get some opinions on this build. From what I've read so far, this processor and motherboard should be fine; I'm just not sure about what memory I should be getting, or if it even matters.

Here's what I'm looking at:

Intel Core i3 540 3.06GHz (Clarkdale) (Socket LGA1156)
Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 microATX Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9): http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-203-CS
Corsair Builder Series CX 430W ATX Power Supply (CMPSU-430CXUK)
Fractal Design Define XL Full Tower Case - Black Pearl: http://www.fractal-design.com/?view=product&prod=54

I'm planning on using Snow Leopard server on this, purely because that's what I'm using at the moment (on a TranquilPC BBS2 - Intel D945GCLF2), but have no problems with using Snow Leopard if I can't get this to work.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

I have the same motherboard, processor, memory, it is rock solid, though not running server.

The only bit that won't work is the Intel integrated graphics.....you will need a graphics care. I used an inexpensive Asus EN8400GS Silent.

Pretty noob-ish question, but with that Asus geforce 8400gs silent, would the same chip from another manufacturer work in the same way? For example, the msi geforce 8400gs silent (512mb ddr3)?

Thought I'd just add a quick update to say that I've finished installing my new system.

Installed 10.6.3 Snow Leopard Server, then used the combo update to go to 10.6.7 in conjunction with the instructions from avdo here: viewtopic.php?f=54&t=16576&hilit=ga+h55m+ud2h

Although at the point where avdo's machine worked, mine was KPing, so I booted again with iBoot and ran MultiBeast again, but instead of using the DSDT, I went for the easy install option. As it's for a (headless) home server, I don't need graphics or sound working (they may work however, I just haven't checked).

My final list of components:

- Intel Core i3 540 3.06GHz (Clarkdale) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail
- Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 microATX Motherboard
- OCZ StealthXStream 2 500W Power Supply
- Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)
- Gainward GeForce 8400GS "SILENT" 512MB DDR2 PCI-Express Graphics Card
