So I just recently decided to build a new Hackintosh, and have successfully Installed Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4, & everything is working except sleep. I was hoping since this Gigabyte board has 3D BIOS it would be supported natively however I cannot get it working yet.. Personally I don't use sleep so not an issue for me..

NOTE: I did have to remove AppleHDA In order to get the Voodoo HDA Audio working, and It's working perfectly no crackling noises or anything, the quality of the audio is quite good, there is no need for a USB Sound Card..

Must Update to Mac OSX Lion 10.7.3 after restart boot into OSX Lion again and install Multibeast, be sure to remove AppleHDA Before attempting to install VoodooHDA..

MultiBeast
- EasyBeast
- System Utilities
- Atheros Network
- Latest VoodooHDA

Performance wise I think I'm getting about the expected benchmarks, 9900 Geekbench 32Bit Score at Stock speeds..

Yikes. Via audio. VoodooHDA. And your sound quality is okay? That's far from vanilla and may cause you problems when you update in the future :(

Yup the quality is pretty good, at least for me, I haven't noticed a significant difference when compared to the quality on Windows 7 with drivers.. I actually had ordered a USB Sound Card, but changed my order for a heatsink instead as I'm pretty satisfied with the Voodoo HDA..

Maybe It's really a personal preference, but I'm not hearing any crackling noises or anything along those lines..

when i had a board with via audio, updates were beautiful.
no need to roll back applehda/reinstall an audio kext.

that was the only benefit to be honest. audio quality wasnt horrendous, but it was far from realtek audio quality and not all inputs/outputs worked

I think it really depends on the motherboard, I remember when I had Installed OSX on an X58 Motherboard the Voodoo HDA audio was terrible on that.. There would be a constant buzzing noise, and the audio overall wasn't that great..

Now on this Z77 board while the volume doesn't go as high as in Windows, but It's more then acceptable, you still can't turn it up all the way without really hurting your ears.. And as far as quality goes again there is no buzzing or crackling sound so far, and the quality is pretty good or acceptable..

for me that had more to do with which version of voodoohda was installed.
eg. i had massive issues with the newer versions (crackling, popping, audio being slow at the start of youtube videos then catching up), the oldest version didnt cause those issues and for the most part was ok.

i doubt it has anything to do with which intel chipset you are using, more to do with which via codec and which version of voodoohda

@yamcha didn't see mention of usb3 working fine. did you have to do anything special for that? does regular old shutdown and restart work (i know sleep is a no-go for now)

The best you can hope for your USB 3 ports is that they run at USB 2 speeds. Apple doesn't not support USB 3 natively in OS X. It remains speculation as to whether or not they will in the future considering their support for ThunderBolt.

I can not recommend the MultiBeast USB 3 kext. It has spotty results even for those mobo chipset it supports.

If you require USB 3 speeds, you will have to acquire a 3rd party USB 3 PCI card and compatible drivers.

Thanks Stork, for the response. I'm not so much after the USB3 speeds, just wanting to make sure i can use those USB3 ports for regular USB2 related items.

yamcha; silly question but did yuou delete applehda from /System/Library/Extensions and that's it? i did that, then installed latest voodoohda from multibeast, and of course, got the kernel panic. is there a way to recover from that kernel panic or am i stuck with having to reinstall at this point?

EDIT: nevermind, yes i should have only enabled ethernet via multibeast then updated to 10.7.3.. doh.. read that multiple times, but got all click happy in multibeast. let's try this again shall we? fresh install, round 2.

EDIT.. AGAIN: So I figured I'd try my luck with just running a software update to the 10.7.4 updater. installed fine, but it KP's on IOUSB stuff :/ Going to download the combo updater for 10.7.3 and keep my fingers crossed that it works. I have USB sound already, so I'm not terribly concerned with not getting built in audio working, but is a nice to have.
