I am making a budget gaming pc to replace my old iMac and need to know if hackintosh will work on it (Mac is a MUST!)

The specs are:
CPU: Intel core i5 3470 – $199
MOBO: Gigabyte Z68p-DS3 – $79
HDD: WD Caviar Green 1.0 TB – Taken from external HDD – Free!
GPU: Powercolor Raedon HD 6870 – $70 gumtree
PSU: Antec Neo Eco 520w – $66
Case: Thermaltake V3 – Free
ODD: LG DL DVD RW – Free (Taken from old pc)
RAM: Whatever I can afford for now!

Total: $450

Will this work? And what will I need/can you put me onto a few tutorials and give me the basics on hackintosh.

Thanks!

welcome to the forum :)

the first thing I would check is whether your hard drive will boot. I am aware that some people have had issues with "Green" hdd's. I have no experience of it myself so maybe someone who has one of these drives on the forum will be able to provide more info. I use 2TB version WD Greens as storage only and use an SSD for my system drive.

The other thing to be aware of is that there are some tweaks necessary to get the HD6xxx series of graphics cards to work with Mountain Lion - assuming you will be installing Mountain Lion. Have a look at http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...mountain-lion-6xxx-gpu-issues-fix-inside.html

For the basics of hackintoshing your machine I would follow tony's guides from the forum http://www.tonymacx86.com/section/3-guides.html

Correct! ONLY use WD Greens for STORAGE. As a boot drive we do not recommend b/c you wold have to apply the Green drive fix.
