Hi, I have an Asus F541UV (X541UV mainboard) and I have successfully installed El Capitan. It has a Realtek RTL8723BE installed and I tried to install an Atheros 5B95 but OS X can't find the hardware. I'm afraid the BIOS has a whitelist of cards allowed. Can anyone help me? I'm trying to find an OS X compatible whitelisted card, or, as an alternative, a patched BIOS for my laptop.
Eventually I will buy an external USB WiFi, what's the SMALLEST USB dongle OS X compatible?

Thank you very much.

Thanks RehabMan, I thoroughly read that post several times (this is not my first hackintosh) but what I don't understand is HOW exactly try to rebrand my card.

Not possible to make your Realtek card work by rebranding.
The hardware is incompatible... must be replaced with compatible hardware.

If you have already installed compatible hardware and need analysis...

Attach ioreg as ZIP: http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/58368-guide-how-make-copy-ioreg.html. Please, use the IORegistryExplorer v2.1 attached to the post! DO NOT reply with an ioreg from any other version of IORegistryExplorer.app.

Provide output (in Terminal):
Code:
kextstat|grep -y acpiplat
kextstat|grep -y appleintelcpu
kextstat|grep -y applelpc
kextstat|grep -y applehda

Attach EFI/Clover folder as ZIP (press F4 at main Clover screen before collecting). Please eliminate 'themes' directory. Provide only EFI/Clover, not the entire EFI folder.

Attach output of (in Terminal):
Code:
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions && sudo kextcache -u /

Compress all files as ZIP. Do not use external links. Attach all files using site attachments only.

In this thread: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/wi-fi-and-bluetooth-cards-for-laptops-with-mac-os-os-x.97099/

Atheros 5b95 is listed as working but with DeviceID fix needed.

I have a bunch of cards but only two cards that fits my laptop (half size mini PCIe): Atheros 5B95 (ar9285) and Broadcom BCM94313HMG2LP1. I will happily buy another one if you can give a hint about a rebrandable half mini PCIe card suitable for my laptop.

Thank you for your priceless support.

Edit: I have a full size Apple Airport I may adapt in the case: AR5BXB92 but I don't know if it is rebrandable.

Nothing to do with "rebranding".

BCM94313 not supported.
AR9285 is supported... install it. Use ProBookAtheros.kext to enable it.

Just installed. "No hardware installed", it is blacklisted.

No files provided as per request in post #4... so no ideas for you.

Sorry, I had connectivity problems (total internet blackout) now resolved. In the meantime I managed to have a working AR9285 as per your hint about ProBookAtheros.kext. I had to put it in /L/E, didn't work if placed in S/L/E.

Now I'm trying to follow your guide about patching SSDT to have a working audio (ALC256) and trackpad (ELAN1200): https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-patching-laptop-dsdt-ssdts.152573/ but I'm afraid it is beyond my skills.

I will eventually post in that thread.

Thank you.

ProbookAtheros.kext will work from either location (must disable SIP properly).
