Wi-Fi (and Bluetooth) cards for laptops with Mac OS / OS X

Alright, so if there are no connection problems, I think I'll go with this card, too. Thanks a lot! :)

Just make a double check to get a HP-branded one, not some generic or for a Dell laptop because these won't work properly.

Oh, good point. So I have to look further... It seems to be very difficult to find a matching one.

I have to ask again because I read that the HP 4540s isn't whitelist-limited.
So can I use also not HP branded AR5B195's without problems for WIFI & Bluetooth (also under Windows)? Or is it better to go with HP branded ones?

Just make sure that the chipsets are compatible (same as on cards people had good results with) and you will be fine. You and mr-andrek do not have the same machine generation so not the same rules/limitations apply.

I have found this one in Europe: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Atheros-AR5B...Computing_NetworkCards_RL&hash=item43bc2dff05

But the description says: "Can't use on IBM & HP due to BIOS whitelist"

So this is why I ask. The chipset ist a AR9285 for WIFI and AR3011 for Bluetooth - so it should work (in case that whitelist problems do not apply)?
I can't give you any guarantees, but that probably is written there because the whitelisting was used for quite some time and drooped (to the surprise of many) only in the latest generation and the ebay sellers are rather safe then sorry, since the most people upgrading wifi cards have older generations of notebooks.

Alright, thanks for your answer!
So, maybe someone other is able to confirm that this card would work for my HP 4540s in MacOS & Windows.

I just want to inform you that I ordered this card (not HP branded) and it works really well in my ProBook 4540s! Wifi & Bluetooth without any real problems yet.

Not sure if this thread is for internal wifi adapters or not, but I purchased a USB one from amazon for under $10 a couple months ago that worked for me in 10.6.8, and then works as well in 10.8.3. Here is a link to the card.

The drivers that came with it did NOT work and I spent hours finding the correct drivers. These are the drivers that worked in both 10.6.8 and 10.8.3.

That was on a Dell Inspiron 1545, but I'm in the market and about to purchase a Probook 4540s shortly. I plan on using the adapter for that if I end up with one that doesn't come with a wi-fi card that works out of the box.
