Which OSX for maximum compatibility/performance?

I don't really have any personal preference about which version of OSX is on my ProBook (user experience and look). I'd rather just install the most compatible, reliable, and fast build.

Any advice on which one to choose?

I'd recommend ML 10.8.4. So far, it just gets better each release.
