What motherboards with Thunderbolt 3 work with a 8th generation i7-8700K processor

Try searching for an Asus Z370 motherboard that can utilize a TH.Bolt 3 add in card. That's another approach that may work. Not seen many User builds with Z370 and these cards yet so you'll be the pioneers so to speak. Most info you need should be on the Asus website.

Not sure how many ports it would support but the GIGABYTE Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 also has an internal
  1. 1 x Thunderbolt™ add-in card connector

Not sure if it's 3 either. At least you have another choice.

Yup that looks like it's gonna work. After doing all this research though I think I'm just going to take the plunge to this motherboard:

Gigabyte X299 DESIGNARE EX (rev. 1.0)
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X299-DESIGNARE-EX-rev-10#kf

I'm going to return the processor and get this one instead:
https://ark.intel.com/products/94189/Intel-Core-i7-6800K-Processor-15M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

In comparison to what I have now I think it'll be worth it
4.0 GHz i7 x 4 core > 3.6 GHz i7 x 6 core
1 x M.2 drive > 3 x M.2 drives
64gb RAM > 128gb of RAM
1 x Display Port > 2 x Display Port
1 x Gigabit ethernet > 2 x Gigabit ethernet
No WiFi > 802.11 ac
2 x Thunderbolt 3 ports builtin

Yes, the specifications for the X299 Designare EX lists Thunderbolt 3 controller on the motherboard so it should support Thunderbolt 3 on its two USB-C ports. This board will not be cheap, though.

But the Core i7 6800K does not work with this board as it is socket 2011-3 while the motherboard requires a socket 2066 CPU. What you need is a Core i7 7800X if you want a 6 core CPU.

That's even better! Thanks for correcting me.

That link is outdated as it has not been updated for the Z270 / X299 / Z370 motherboards.

Using that Asus Thunderbolt 3 card MAY be a solution, but it requires an Asus motherboard with a Thunderbolt header (may not work with other motherboard brands)

Based on the research I have done about the Asus card is that as long as your MoBo has Thunderbolt header then it should work but again we don’t know if it’s going to work on a hachintosh. Here is a link of a video I found in YouTube

8A38F675-95E9-4D3C-A50E-C99C7353F53B.jpeg I am using Z270X-UD5 MoBo has one th3 in the back if I need another one I will add an Asus th3 into my th header by the way Thunderbolt can be daisy chained so I don’t see why we need a second input.

Yah that's what Gigabyte support said. You have to have a TH Header on the motherboard to add one of the cards to it. So it's pretty simple to narrow down the list of boards that can support Thunderbolt even if they don't have the USB-C type ports built into the board.

Would be very interested in hearing if anyone has gotten Thunderbolt to work on a Hackintosh via one of this type of cards...
