Hello, I'm interested in building a CustoMac with the following components:

  • SanDisk Extreme SSD 120 GB SATA 6.0 Gb-s2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SDSSDX-120G-G25

  • TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter,2.4GHz 450Mbps/5Ghz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n,WEP, WPA/WPA2

  • SEAGATE ST31000524AS Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 internal hard drive (Bare Drive)

  • EVGA GeForce GTX670 2048MB GDDR5 256bit, 2x Dual-Link DVI, HDMI, DP, 4-Way SLI Ready Graphics Card (02G-P4-2670-KR)

  • Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (CML16GX3M2A1600C10)

  • Gigabyte Intel Z77 Dual Thunderbolt ATX Motherboard with BT4.0/Wi-Fi (GA-Z77X-UP5-TH)

  • Intel Core i7-3770K Quad-Core Processor 3.5 GHz 8 MB Cache LGA 1155 - BX80637I73770K

This will be my first time building a system from scratch. I'm a little intimidated but I know I can do it. And I'm excited to do it.

I am a video editor that works in Premiere, FCP7 & FCPX, Adobe Suite etc. I have projects that are shot on DSLRs and RED cams. Everything is in HD or higher.

My questions are simple, will this system be able to:
  1. handle all my video editing needs
  2. be upgraded to the next version of OSX (when that come out)
  3. handle dual screens and have output to a TV monitor
  4. I have an old mac pro, can I use this case?

Is there any other hardware that I will need to run a top level editing suite?

Thank you for your help!

I have the same board and video card, its a very easy build to get going.

We have no idea of what your video editing needs are, so hard to answer that one. Perhaps if you give us some idea of what you'll be doing those with knowledge can answer.

This build can support up to four displays, I am running three at the moment, one off the the onboard video and two off the 670. I believe you should be able to support a tv off the 670.

As for upgrading to the next version of OSX, no one can answer that, its just something you'll have to 'wait and see' let others do the upgrade, don't be the guinea pig, and someone will write up a step by step process.

Also, what do you have planned for backups?

Thank you. I appreciate it.

Do you know if I can use my old MacPro tower as my case?
