Hi everybody, after the recent politics (almost impossible to upgrade) I decided to try the alternative way.

My work: Video editing 1080p (FC + Motion + Adobe stuff) + some 2D and 3D graphics/rendering + Windows 8 PRO (bootcamp or vmware) and MAYBE some gaming for my nephew.

Priority: Stable and silent workstation.

#List:
- GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 660 (Thinking about the 760)
- First Drive (os + app): Samsung 840 256gb PRO
- Second Drive (files): WD HD Caviar Blue - 1TB
- PSU: Seasonic S12G-650 650W 80+ Gold
- CASE: Corsair Carbide 330R or Fractal Design Define R4 (depends on the shop)
- RAM: Corsair 16GB 1600MHz CL10 DDR3 Vengeance
- MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H
- CPU: Intel Core i7-4770 (not S or K)
- CM Hyper 212 Evo or AC i30 NOCTUA NH-D14

Almost: $1650 (gtx 660)

#My doubts and questions
1) Will it work?
2) Will I risk to lose my apps purchased from the app store?

#My HW, SW and Skills
- I have assembled PC for many years.
- MacBookPro5,1 (C2D 2.66 - Nvidia 9600M GT - 8gb ram - WD Black 320gb)
- DVD (Leo and SN), USB/App Store (ML and Mavericks), USB Win8PRO

Thanks ;)

Looks like a good build to me. If silence is your goal, you might want to go with the http://www.corsair.com/us/pc-cases/...carbide-series-330r-quiet-mid-tower-case.html and save some $$ at the same time. If case fans are too noisy, consider changing them out for the Noctua http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608038 and connect to the SYS fan connectors on the mainboard. In BIOS set the fans to PWM control - this will ensure that the fan speed is controlled to what is needed, not full out all of the time, thereby gaining some improvement in noise control.

Thank you! Consider I don't OC, do you think I will need something for the CPU? (Like NOCTUA Ventirad NH-D14)

If you do not OC, then the stock cooler should be sufficient. I have found it rather noisy on startup as it goes full out at the start, but it does quiet down fairly quickly. If you find this too annoying, then consider a Noctua NH-U12s or the 140mm version, the NH-14S.

If they will do well on a Z77 Sabertooth, they should do well for you. Notice the cooler allows the use of high profile RAM, so it is a good choice for afterthought replacement of the stock cooler. Here is a review you might find interesting - http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/noctua_nh_u12s_u14s_review.html

Thanks
I have updated the list, what do you think? (From 760 to 660 I save $130, considering video editing 1080p)

Only 2 things I would change - the PSU and the SSD

I like gold rated PSUs because they have much better regulation of power. I am currently using a gold rated in a 4 year old build and it is still within the factory specs. I have had absolutely no problems with it at all. No hums, no squeals and the fan is just a quiet as when I installed it.
For the SSD, I prefer MLC NAND over TLC. TLC doesn't have the track record for reliability I like to see. So, for PSU and SSD, I would use:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151118

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147193

I realize this might eat up a lot of what you saved on the GPU, but I think it well worth it.

 Almost $1600 and then back to $1700!
I was thinking the same about the 840 even if I backup almost daily. I can cut some bucks with a Corsair RM650 gold ($20 less).
As you can see, I have also changed the CPU cooling system and probably the case, CM Hyper 212 and Fractal Design Define R4 should they work fine? Not the best, but If I want a better SSD and PSU I have to cut something.

Thanks

Big case? Small case? Desktop or under the desk?
What do you look for in a case as far as the outside goes? Simple lines? A door to cover the ODD bays?
Front audio jacks? front USB2.0/USB3.0 ports? Firewire400 port? Ports on the top or top front or ports in the middle front?
For the inside, how many HDD bays do you need? Sometime an almost perfect case falls flat when it doesn't have room for enough HDDs.

For the Corsair PSU, I don't like the fully modular PSUs. I prefer the board power, CPU power and PCIe card power cables be soldered to the rails. Is more reliable IMHO.

Case (workstation): Silent, good air flow (temperature), 1-2 USB3 ports easy to access, 3 hdd bays (1 x 3.5 and 2.5), simple line (no fancy stuff. Max size: mid tower. I am not going to do OC or SLI.

Small case "portable" and "easy to move" would be perfect (home-work), but I thinks it doesn't help with future components upgrade (size) and air flow / temperature. Something like new mac pro size/design.

Good point, I haven't thought about that.

In that case, I would go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352020
Is very nice, sturdy case.

Or you can go with the white - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352024 although I don't know why it should cost $15 more just for color change!
