If you disconnect the monitor hub and connect another USB2 device to HS06 does it work as expected?

Yes.

And yes, I actually quietly realized that those are my 2 options left several pages ago

I wonder if same things happen to, let's say, real Mac Mini or Mac Pro with external monitor with monitor hub.

More likely an issue with the particular hub in your monitor.

The USB hubs in my 2 x Dell 2515H, 1 x Dell 2713H and 1 x Dell P2414H displays all work just fine with macOS.
