USB sound card

Any recommendations regarding an external usb sound card with good audio quality (whatever you can expect from a usb sound card) featuring a mic input for using it with my headset working in OSX without any problems (skype, ...)?

Use the comparison feature there.
You can go cheap or expensive.
Expensive is not necessarily better.
Nearly all have mono for mic.
Sound is OK. Better than VoodooHDA.
the $7 Syba works fine. Plug your headset into it it will work fine.

There are some very upscale and expensive solutions designed for recording that have a little box with many inputs and outputs.
Checkout Griffin and Maudio.
Google mac sound.
Apple store did have some things also...check clearance there also.
