Is this the site that I download the firmware/drivers from?

That would do nicely and it has at least sorted out USB 3.0 problems for some people here, but not everyone.
Another thing to try is to upgrade the firmware on your enclosure http://www.patriotmemory.com/products/d ... 65&type=19 as ASMedia had some issues with OS X compatibility early on, so that might help too, but it's hard to tell what firmware is installed unless you download the utility. That has to be done in Windows though I think, whereas the NEC firmware can be done in DOS. Alternatively there's a newer version here http://www.station-drivers.com/page/asmedia.htm for the drive enclosure.

Holy cow, I never thought getting everything to work would be so much work.

Okay, thelostswede - I will dig into this a little more as I go. Oh, what about SATA3 interface? Was I not getting full speed from it because of the interface?

You mean the Marvell controller? Well, of sorts, but it's not as fast as native SATA 6Gbps in the newer chipsets, that's for sure.
Getting ready to upgrade as soon as Ivy Bridge is here.

As for USB 3.0, it's still fairly new technology, but at least the companies making the technology is doing their best to make it more interoperable by issuing firmware updates.
It's a bit of a hassle for sure, but it could be far worse.
The other issue is of course that there's no official USB 3.0 for OS X, so it's a bit hit an miss for the time being until Apple adds official support, if they do that is.

thelostswede - May I ask the name choice?
Also, what does your Avatar say?

Long story...

It says a Swedish Tiger, but it has a double meaning and it was an ad campaign during WWII that mean that you don't talk about secrets, as there might be spies listening.
