Picked up a new 2GB GT640 Fanless for a great price.
I have a 1GB GT220 in there now.

Can it be as easy as just swapping the cards? or do I need to do some Magic first, or after?
I'd prefer to not have to reinstall everything from scratch.

This is my main machine so if it goes down I'm kind of boned.

Add the boot flag "GraphicsEnabler=No" to your /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist file, then shut it down and swap the cards. That should do the trick.

Thanks for the reply.
I copied that file to my desktop and made the change to the other original.
Hopefully that will make easy to undo if everything goes wrong for some odd reason.

I'm going to do the surgery tomorrow.

Double secret super fail.

Now the system does and endless loop to the boot screen. :(

Also the GT640 had a defect... and it fried one of my PCI-E16X slots.

I managed to get it working under Windows in the other Slot, but I'm tottally locked out 10.8.4 OS X atm.

Going to try and pit the other card back and see if it will let me in. :-/

Hmmm. I don't know what is going on there. But you should be able to boot using your backup of the org.chameleon.Boot.plist file (with your old graphics card installed). At the Chimera screen, hit the spacebar to pause the boot process and allow you to enter boot flags. Type the following:

Code:
config=<path-to-boot.plist>

So in your case, it would be something like:

Code:
config=/Users/Ratteler/Desktop/org.chameleon.Boot.plist

That should get you back into OS X.

As far as putting the GT640 back in, I apologize that I gave you incorrect instructions - that was all I had to do when I upgraded my graphics card from an 8500GT to a GT640. Hopefully someone else will see this and know what I missed.

No need to apologize. You were, without question, the best answer I got. ;-)

I needed an excuse to get Maverick up and running anyway.
