When I upgraded my i5 8400 to an i5 9600k, I thought I would not have any issues since Coffee Lake and Coffee Lake Refresh are more similar than their names. I guess I'm wrong because I can't seem to boot into anything. Clover understands I have a 9600k, but when I try to boot into MacOS, the Apple loading bar slowly fills, and fills all the way until it seemingly gets stuck. It could be I need to give it more time, but I gave it about 30 minutes already and that seems too long. Help please as I'm not sure what to do. Also still running High Sierra, but that worked fine with the 8400. Thanks.

Hi there.

1) Did you update your BIOS to at least F10 before hand? I'm guessing you must have done to get to the Clover menu.

2) Next, did you restore your BIOS settings once you'd changed the CPU? I have a feeling the BIOS would have reset and you would need to check that those Hack-Specific choices are re-input.

3) A long shot but which System Definition are you using? Using a new CPU might require a new SysDef.

F12 currently.

Whoops forgot. Reenabled XHCI handoff, disabled VT-D, and disabled IO Serial Port. No improvement.

It was on 18,3 and worked with the 8400. Tried changing it and did not work.

Thanks.

It doesn't like my pci devices or something? Whenever they're in and I have verbose mode on, it gets stuck on the first pci card, a fenvi card. If all devices are taken out, it gets stuck on 'apfs_module_start: 1279: load: com.apple.filesystems...' Maybe something to do with GPU? Found someone with a similar issue, but I can't find that option on my Gigabyte MOBO.

EDIT: It's the BIOS. That subforum is on fire with this. I reverted back to F10 and could boot into MacOS. First patch mentioned in this thread did not work, will try second one floating around tomorrow. I'm done with flashing BIOS's for today.
