Upgraded Mountain Lion -> Yosemite. Can't Restart or Shutdown

OK some of the messages/errors during the "-v -f" boot up I'm seeing are:

"name" not a kext
"Kernel = __SYNTAB" not a kext

- boot up continues -

** Root file system
     Executing fsck_hfs (version hfs-285).
Warning: couldn't block sleep during cache update
Warning: proceeding w/o DiscArb
/dev/disk0s2 on / (hfs, local, journaled)
bash: /etc/rc.server: No such file or directory
bash: /etc/rc.installer_cleanup: No such file or directory

- boot up continues -

WARNING: IOPlatformPluginUtil : getCPUIDInfo: this is an unknown CPU model
 -- power management may be incomplete or unsupported

- boot up continues and finishes successfully -

The first and second errors / messages are "normal". You can look into them if you want but I wouldn't sweat it. The third error is telling you that you don't have Power Management properly implemented, which may be affecting your shutdown / restart problem... Somewhat solved.

When I boot using "-f" flags I am able to both shut down/restart.

Am trying to solve the fact I have to boot with "-f" to ignore the kernel cache in a different thread: http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-h...-bug-process-suhelperd-156-over-released.html

I have studies this and other threads carefully to get ahead of my reboot shutdown trouble in Yosemite.
Did everything I found, still no proper shutdown and reboot.
