Upgraded GPU, updated to Catalina; sleep now causes crash

Not open for further replies.
Yeah, just had another one, log looks nearly identical to the two above. :/

Is there a way to fix this?

At this point, I'm close to just finishing up this new SSDT, backing up my EFI and then doing a clean install using Unibeast or something. I never used Unibeast before, but I don't really know what else there is to try.

Search for 5700 XT issues others may have had that's similar to yours. Like I said, I don't have that video card and can't say what works and what doesn't...

What SSDT are you finishing?

according to your kernel panic logs, the kernel panic were triggered by this process, VTDecoderXPCServ (VideoToolBox Decoding Service)

VideoToolBox hardware video acceleration is not working properly, maybe your Graphics setup has some problems

I couldn't find any, so i figured making a thread would help others and then solve my problem, but alas... :(

And I figured my computer wasn't going to sleep because of some problem with the USB ports, media attached etc, so I figured I'd try to rebuild the SSDT. The guide I followed eventually gave me an SSDT-USBX.ami to go into the ACPI/pactched folder and then a USBMap.kext to go into kext/Others. However, even after this, I'm still having problems.

My computer now won't enter sleep on its own - at least not within the 1 minute I set. When I hit Sleep via the Apple logo, it puts the display to sleep, followed by the computer about a minute later for all of 1 second then wakes back up.

Do you have any idea how I could go about fixing something like this? Is this because of Nvidia remnants?

If it sleeps with the new account, I'm inclined to think that it's some software that's installed and running, but pmset didn't show anything...

The SSDT-USBX is to help with USB power injection. It should only be used with SSDT-UIAC. If you are using the USBPorts.kext, you don't need to install the two SSDTs.

quick check, run the VideoProc (https://www.videoproc.com/download/videoproc.dmg)
Settings -> General -> Options :: Hardware Info Detected by VideoProc

What applications did you run triggered the kernel panic, Chrome, Quicktime, Video/Audio Applications, VLC Player, Preview ... ?

Hmm, it's not detecting anything, it looks like.

And nothing really out of the ordinary: Safari, Discord, Spotify. Nothing I've never run before.

I'm guessing somewhere along the way, I botched something. It doesn't sleep normally anymore.

supposed you are using SMBIOS iMacPro1,1 now, with RX 5700 XT and disabled the IGPU, all the hardware acceleration features should be enabled.

maybe you can post a new set of debug files, as well as the ioreg

Ok, so I reverted back to the EFI chef has posted since it gave me the most "success" and then added a few differences. VideoProf still shows N/A for graphics, but the acceleration etc shows up fine now.

Putting the computer into MANUAL sleep seems to work as well, works the normal way as it does on Windows.

I'm waiting on the final test of "will it reboot some random number of minutes longer than what energy saver settings say?" now, but just to be complete and caught up, below are the results of running "pmsets -g assertions"

And attached below are the newest debug results.

If all else fails, seeing as the card works fine in Windows, would a fresh install fix everything in one-fell-swoop?

e: So manual sleep worked the first time. Second time, display sleeps, computer sleeps for a second, wakes back up, but display stays asleep. Which is fine, I guess. The dreaded crashing is the biggest problem.

edit:

Got it to freeze and force me to reboot. I had Activity Monitor open so I could see a process was suing nearly 80% of the CPU. Googled it and it lead me here and I just deleted that .plist. Waiting again with Activity Monitor open just to see what happens.

In any case, this is the "freeze and force reboot" panic report:

Im not running lily or WTG??? Attached is my EFI if anyone has some thought on why Im not seeing any hardware detection.

thanks.

If you are not going to use WhateverGreen, you need to do the GFX0 to IGPU and PEGP to GFX0 renames manually.
