Hi everyone,

It's already been 4 years since I went with this build, it has served me well.
I want to upgrade it to 2016 standards. I need more video editing power especially to handle 4k raw footage, and am starting to do a lot of 3d rendering in cinema 4d.

My current set up is:
  • Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH
  • Intel i7 3770K
  • evga gtx 970 4gb
  • Corsair Hydro Series H80
  • Corsair DDR3 1600MHz 16GB (2x8gb)
  • Corsair Vengeance C70 Black
  • Coolermaster GX 750W
  • Kingston Technology HyperX 3K SSD Drive

What would you guys suggest?
I'm ready to put about 2000$ to update my build. I guess I'll need a new motherboard/cpu and maybe add a second gtx970 as im mainly using premiere and the cuda acceleration is key.

Thanks!

Don't forget the new DDR4 Ram. A 32 or 64 GB kit would be a nice upgrade there.

True! 64gb would be a nice bump. But I guess it will depend on the budget left after a new motherboard and gpu :)

I like "Giacomoleopardo's Workstation Triplet" build
But I can't seem to find the Asus P9X79 WS Motherboard in switzerland
And the Core™ i7-6900K 20M Broadwell-E seems a bit overkill?

I wouldn't invest 2,000 in an old X79 chipset build. If you have to have six cores or more then look at some newer builds that use DDR4 ram. If you look at some of the specs for the new I7-7700K you'll see that, when overclocked, could compete very well with a 6 core Extreme CPU. The 7700K Kaby Lake chip should be out for sale in about 3 months.

Hmm okay! I must admit I have no idea what that really means, my technical knowledge is a bit limited here o_O I've always followed others people builds, so now I want to update my 4 year old machine I'm a bit lost

What mobo/cpu would you suggest for heavy video editing and 3d rendering?
