Hello.

I have a Hackintosh running 10.7.5 and have never updated. I will begin to lose some of the support for a number of applications soon. I would like to update to 10.11. My question is would it be better to go through all the incremental updates or just do a clean install of 10.11 and then restore all my files through a Time Machine backup?

Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks, all!

1. Remove your 10.7.5 working hard drive.
2. Buy a new hard drive
3. clean install to 10.11.5 using Tonymac's latest instructions (Unibeast, Clover, Multibeast)
4. Get 10.11.5 running and booting on its own
5. Hook up your old 10.7.5 drive via SATA as a 2nd hard drive
6. Use Apple Migration Assistant to transfer docs and apps*

* may need reauthorization for apps

If something goes bad, you always have your 10.7.5 working hard drive, and have another day to try getting 10.11.5 working.

Thanks for the advice. I will try this out.

One more question. If I have a secondary HD installed, will it play nicely with the new install? Meaning it will be able to recognize the files and access them?
