FWIT, I went back down to the f11 bios cause the f12 (at least on my machine) disabled the mac keyboard and required a PC keyboard for any kind of keystroke input.

Interesting because this is the opposite from my experience.

I'm running F12, and I have my USB KB and mouse plugged into the USB 2 port above the eSATA port as I stated in Post #746. USB KB and mouse work fine in El Capitan.

Is your kb & mouse plugged into one or both of those two USB ports? If so, something else is wrong, not F12. Did F12 work OK for you in Mavericks and Yosemite?

I have been using Mavericks & Yosemite with f11 without issue. All USB ports work as does USB3

My problems started when I loaded "optimized defaults" for the el capitan upgrade while under f11. It disabled my dual monitor support (Apple TB display & Dell 27" connected to GTX 680). One or the other will work but not both together. That is before any kind of upgrade to El Capitan. I have no idea why this has happened as the machine was originally built with the f11 bios. Other than the iMessage issue the machine has been fairly stable. I am baffled and will start from scratch with a fresh install and stripped down machine after I complete a couple projects.

I upgraded the bios to f12 from f11 hoping that would somehow fix my dual monitor problem - it didn't. I discovered at that time that my Apple branded USB keyboard was not recognized by the machine.- I couldn't enter the password or change the boot order with the f12 key. I attach a PC USB keyboard and I can input fine (interestingly my other hack requires a PC keyboard too). I tried the Apple keyboard in the USB ports you mentioned and it didn't work under f12. Downgraded to f11 and it works in any USB port.

So I am back where I started minus a second monitor

Will USB3 ever work with El Capitan and the GA-Z77X-UP5-TH motherboard?
I would love to upgrade but this is holding me back.

Yes, folks are working on it, and we're coming close to figuring it out. However, if you use your system for "production," then I'd recommend holding off until at least 10.11.3 as there are still bugs in the OS X.

Great work Stork, Ive totally forgotten a few things or two re: Clover and this particular build. Im just upgrading El Cap on my other half's build. Any clues what to do for a GTX580 which only boots in low res with nv_disable=1. Should I inject? etc...

Ive had to convert from Chameleon on this. Is 12j really worth upgrading from 12 or am I asking for a few more hours of trouble?

Disregarding the Nvidia PCI graphics card, has anyone compiled a complete list of necessary kexts and config.plist etc in one healthy zip to save us poor gremlins further time and effort!? Ive just spent 3 days building a Z170 and am exhausted!

Unless you have installed the nVidia web or CUDA drivers, you don't need to worry about nv_disable=1. However, since you have an older graphics card, I would use the nvidia inject.

Using 12j is up to you, I have no experience with it, but as you read in the previous posts, 12j may have an advantage. If you want to try it, I'd try it first on Yosemite, then upgrade to El Capitan.

Not, I. At the present time, I don't have access to Thunderbolt, so I can't state positively how to install El Capitan on our system. But, if I was to go about installing El Capitan, I do a fresh install on new SSD or HDD with the other SATA devices disconnect. (I can always run Migration Assistant later.) I'd follow tonymacx86's guide for installing El Capitan: http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capita...-el-capitan-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html. After installing El Capitan, I'd make several mods to the Clover El Capitan config.plist file to increase the number of default USB ports from 15 to 30 and installed Rehabman's FakePCIID.kext and FakePCIID_XHCIMux.kext in /Library/Extensions using Kext Beast. However, from what we know now, only the Intel USB chipset ports will work. That's the best I can speculate on what to do.

Yeah thats what I reckon. Ive been reading about so many macs with USB problems since Yose 10.10.5 and now 10.11 - its not just a Hackintosh thing. In 10.11.2 Apple mentioned in their update notes they'd fixed some things on USB amongst other things but there's still some work to go. I also suspect that 10.11.3 will improve things just in time for their next major batch of new Macs coming out.

Its funny now seeing Apple having to rise to the challenge of developing drivers and helping 3rd party drivers, like Microsoft had to do for decades with their Windows stuff. It drags along but eventually we get there. Thats why its always good to build hacks on similar specced boards. You get there that much quicker and updating isn't half as exhausting. The GA Z77X UD 5 / TH has been a very popular hackintosh board judging by the amount of posts here and around the internet and its till a great combo.

Does anyone know if the latest Nvidia El Cap web drivers support the GTX580 / series 500 cards yet? Also CUDA.

II'll answer this myself, Ive just experimented: Yes, They do indeed ! see my response if you own a GTX 580 on the latest Nvidia web driver thread. Very fast and stable and work with Photoshop cc.
