The Journey:
I started out by selling my iPad 2 that I had just purchased, because college was coming up and I still didn't have the money to purchase the MacBook Pro that I had wanted. So the $600 I had gotten for that gave me a head start on the motherboard and processor. As I got my paychecks from work, I bought more parts. After sometime I had completed it.

My goal was to build the most expensive CustoBuild posted by TonyMac. After not even a week having the board I decided I didn't like it at all, and had some problems with it. So I sent that back, got a refund, and bought the ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe after reading a good review of it on the forums.

I later upgraded my PSU to the AX1200, and went from the NZXT Phantom to the Corsair White Graphite 600T case. I also added native wireless and bluetooth modules. I ordered these from Ebay (Look above for part numbers). Below will be the links for the guides I followed for this; bluetooth one being the tricky one of the two.

Everything basically works out of the box!
Below will be Multibeast Configuration, as well as my Boot plist
Also, check below for notes on Audio/Ethernet/Speedstepper.

I like to install Chimera again on top of MultiBeast, just incase. Can't hurt.
Here is also my Boot plist.

Code:

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

</plist>

Note on Audio/Ethernet
I didn't choose all the options for the ALC889 Audio in MultiBeast because I'm using the ALC889 edited Lion AppleHDA.kext, all you have to do is replace the AppleHDA.kext with the one from the post below, rebuild cache/privileges, restart, and done.
*Also, In MultiBeast, I chose the ALC889 Non-DSDT Enabler, I don't think it is needed, but I chose it anyways. I'm now using a DSDT, but this board doesn't even need one, so far at least. So to stay on the safe side, I took Samisnake's suggestion and extracted mine, and patched it. :)

ALC889 AppleHDA Kext

And the reason I didn't choose the Ethernet driver's in Multibeast, because at the time when I used MultiBeast, they were outdated and caused sleep issues. I know for a fact that the Lnx2Mac has been updated in MultiBeast recently, but I still prefer to just to download them, then use KextBeast to install them. Below will be the links to both Lnx2Mac and AppleIntelE1000e kext pages.

AppleIntelE1000e- in MultiBeast
Lnx2Mac - also available in MultiBeast

Note on Power Management - ASUS
Don't need to use nullcpu or a patched AICPU as the bios has been patched.
Patched bioses are available here

Update: April 25th 2012
Sonnet Presto Ethernet Card

Pgigpciepro_0910.jpg

A couple of days ago I ran across this post:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=48091&start=0&hilit=NIC+CARD

This got me thinking.

I have 2 ethernet ports (intel and realtek)
I've never fully tested these cards

I've always used my airport card, but once I go off to college I'll be using ethernet.
So i'm not sure how these cards perform under load, or if they will work with network bridging and virtual machines (if i ever work with one). This seems to be a problem with realtek one. I'm not sure if this was fixed, and i didn't read on. But I was hooked!!

I needed to add something to my build that would make it more native. So I went ahead and bought it, and this has made my build one step closer to being perfect. And that is because it worked OOB!:)

Now when I need to do a fresh install, everything works out of the box, except audio. That is it!

So take a look at the post! And here is the card on newegg

i got basically the same hardware, less ram and a i7 2600
a P8Z68-V and a Force 3 ssd.

i was really surprised how all was finelly recognized,
and how simple it was to make to my old G4 a new life.
i love my asus board!

thanks for the bios and power management tips.

I felt the same way! Everything works so well!! And don't have to worry about any long process if I wanna do a clean install.
And the patched bios made this build even better. Never needing to patch the appleintelcpu kext again. So when mountain lion releases one less worry!
So I give a big thanks to samisnake for pointing that out and posting a how to on it!

And my next buy will be a corsair force gt 240gb, I'm excited for that. Do I just have to install trim from multibeast when I get it, and then I'm all set?!

Very nice build and congrats. Good luck in school whatever your goals are there.
Hey thanks :) and I ended up holding off till the fall, but now I'm all set, just gotta wait till August and I'm off. I'll be majoring in computer science and then get my masters. So I'm excited for that!!

Re: lxLifestream's P8Z68 Deluxe - i7-2600K - Radeon HD 6870

This is pretty much one of the quickest install/update build's I've used. And i've seen others struggle a lot too. Now with the ASUS bios patch, whenever I want to do a clean install all i have to do is install the chimera, fakesmc, ethernet, audio and done. Sleep works, as well as everything else. I don't use USB3, so I've never played around with it.

Same with upgrading when a new update comes out, install the update, and reinstall audio, done. No KP's, I personally couldn't be happier. Even has a pretty decent graphics card if i wanted to turn it around and put windows on it and game.

This is just my opinion.

Hi newbie hackintosher here :)

I have pretty much the *exact* same build xcept for Graphics I have an ASUS GTX 580 and Power Supply is Antec 750W.

Did you have to work around the 4GB RAM limitation or did the install proceed just fine with 16 GB of RAM out of the box?

I actually forgot about the 4gb limitation when I started to install it, but worked just fine. So if you have the same motherboard just plop in the 16gb and install. But if you wanted to stay on the safe could always just throw in 4, and afterwards throw in the other 12! And I thought about getting the gtx 580, does it work out of the box?

Thank you for this post! I've been considering building a hackintosh with nearly identical specs. Good to hear things went smoothly.

Curiously, what board did you have before?
And could you possibly link to that good review you found? I'd like to read it.

Thanks!
