I casually updated Clover to 4200 the other evening... I also installed usb 3.0 drivers from the install menu. (I can't find this usb 3.0 drivers button anymore)

Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 7, 4790k, GTX 1080 (just upgraded from El Capitan and a GTX 960)

Rebooting I got "bf1: init5" then a top left cursor for a second and then a black screen.

I've tried mounting the EFI partition in windows and restoring backups but it does the same thing. (I dual boot into Win 10)

I created a unibeast sierra usb and I got to "Welcome to Clover 4152... Testing hardware..." and it hung there.

The black screen boot changed to this testing hardware for a while, now it's either a black screen or testing hardware randomly.

I found that if I boot into my bios first and F10 restart I can boot into my OSX drive but I need to spacebar to select my nvidia web drivers to get them working. I also need a cold boot to get my ALC1150 audio working so I have no audio booting this way.

It's all a bit of a blur at this point, this is my work computer so I've been randomly trying things hoping they work.

I just don't understand why clover gives me a black screen without loading my bios first and what is going on.

I can't cold boot into clover.

I would really appreciate some help! Thanks in advance!

When you install/update Clover it saves a copy of your previous configuration in /EFI-Backups on your system disk.
To restore to a previous state boot to the desktop and mount your EFI partition.
Delete the /EFI folder and contents from the EFI partition.
In Finder locate the /EFI folder which you want to restore in /EFI-Backups and drag it to your EFI partition.
Restart.

Hi P1LGRIM, I really appreciate your help.

That was the first thing I tried and I did it several times... It did not work immediately. I'm 15 hours deep into this now so it's becoming a blur what I have done.

I've been at this for two days, this is my work machine and I'm a full time photographer and photo editor so I can't get any work done until it's fixed.

What's happening now on a cold boot when I boot into this partition is that it boots... then a 10 second delay and a beep reboot. So it's not exactly a cold boot.

Sometimes it goes into a constant boot cycle where it beeps and restarts again every 10 seconds.

Everything should be right, but none of my systems are working, graphics are not loading, audio, ethernet.

I have copied a backup EFI partition to my system EFI and I have copied all the backup kexts from my backup clone drive into my system drive.

This was a 110% working system for years that has all of a sudden fallen to pieces after a casual clover update. (I did upgrade to Sierra for my GTX 1080 a month ago).

I picked up another SSD to install a fresh copy and that does not behave properly either.

With this info do you have any advice how to revive my precious work computer?

Thanks for any help...

Your posts are a bit too rambling to follow.
What happens when you boot from the hard drive in verbose mode ?
Post a picture of the screen if you are able.

Sorry, I needed sleep. It's been a long two days.

My system seems to be back. Not loading a black screen. Still trying to repair my system.

What I don't understand: Clover was loading different versions from the previous successful boot regardless of the actual version of clover on the drive selected.

For example: I created a unibeast sierra usb drive which loaded 4045. Now I'm booting into my system drive again and clover 4045 is still loading somehow. Whenever I would successfully boot clover that version number would stay no matter what drive I booted from.

When I boot it still says clover 4045 scanning entries though this drive is no longer connected to the system.

Is there a systemwide cache somewhere that retains this boot data?

I have attached my ioreg and efi folder zipped.

Everything *seems* to be back to normal.

I did weekly backups of my system with CCC to an old USB drive. I bought another SSD (I could use another anyway) and I booted into the USB backup drive using clover from a unibeast boot drive. I then used CCC to clone the system backup to the new SSD. I copied a backup EFI partition to the new SSD.

I physically disconnected my old system drive. When I was trying to boot to the new SSD clover was still booting to my old system drive.

I booted into the new SSD with the unibeast USB and ran Multibeast (this was a another mess that took 4 hours to clean up, info here and thanks again P1LGRIM).

Sorry if this is rambly, it's all a blur.

There was a bunch of other stuff I've done... I'm about 20 hours into this mess. Just trying to leave something behind that helps anyone else with this problem.

Back to work! I have alot of work to catch up on now!

Why are you booting in Legacy on a UEFI Motherboard? Should be using UEFI Booting not Legacy.

I have Windows 10 on another drive.

When I set my mobo to boot from UEFI only, it bypasses clover altogether and Windows 10 automatically boots.

I have just given up on UEFI and select legacy in my bios.

Windows actually changes the boot order in my bios after I boot from it.

After a recent Windows update it now bypasses the F12 boot menu and I can't even press delete to get to the bios. I have to boot into Windows and hold Shift while selecting Restart. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware settings.

Windows takes over every time I try to UEFI boot.

Thats because you need to rename bootmgfw to bootmgfw-orig.efi.
