Update on the CustoMac Pro 2010 - Core i7-930 - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - ATI 5770 1GB - 6GB DDR3 RAM.

This is one of the first example builds that we posted over at the old blog, and quite a few user builds in the forum are based on it. The CustoMac Pro 2010 was a direct (ish) comparison with the Mac Pro of the day. It's running Yosemite great, although bootup is a bit slow due to the Award BIOS. This is also the build with the infamous Gigabyte Radeon HD 5770 'Batmobile' graphics card. It's also showing its age, but runs perfectly stable.

For post installation, use MultiBeast's UserDSDT with the DSDT from the DSDT Database, and for audio, network, bootloader, and customization. For the ATI card, you can use GraphicsEnabler=Yes or No. NOTE: For OS X Yosemite, X58 and 6 Series AWARD BIOS systems (including this one) require 10.9.5 AppleACPIPlatform Rollback.

Thanks Tony Mac!

I have the same build but with the GA-X58A-UD5 and a 2.66ghz Xeon. I updated it to Yosemite and everything worked great until I realize the Hard drives connected via USB3 got automatically ejected every time the computer slept. Do you know a way around this problem?

Thanks tonymacx86

this is a great suggestion because I wanted to update my hack running SL to Yosemite but I didn't know where to start.
Although SL is still a good OS for music applications, perhaps Mavericks is acfually the best compromise due not every music software and virtual instrument were tested in full under Yosemite.

My EX58A-UD3R with OC'ed i7-930 is still running strong for almost 5 years. I've been fiending to do a 4790K build, but can't justify it at the moment as my 930 still does everything I need for the time being. It's been upgraded since with Mavericks, a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD, 24GB ram and better graphics card and runs 4+ well allocated VMs for an Oracle Database test environment well enough.

Thanks for the info! I'll be updating to Yosemite in the near future.

Wow... :) Its so amazing how long these builds survive the updates and stuff. Just goes to show, when it comes to the Buyer's guide and CustoMac builds, TonyMacX86 really knows whats good. Awesome job!

Hi Tony, I'm running Yosemite on a MSI x58 Pro-E motherboard and i7 920 and I have no issues except for audio (I don't know why multibeast audio kexts don't work as from SL to Mavericks), should I run this rollback? And what's it for?

thanks in advance

...I would hope so. 5 years isn't that long.

D: I know, but for some reason I feel like supporting Hackintosh builds this long may get to be hard...

X58 is the platform that keeps on giving. Im still running the good old GA-X58A-UD3R.

However, 5 years later I was able to snag a XEON X5650 6 CORE on eBay for $60 (That used to be a $1000 chip). That baby can be overlocked to 4Ghz+ and combined with a SSD (My base system is on a Samsung 840 Pro) this 5-year old system is faster than many OC Haswell 4-core (like 4790K), and gives my real iMac 2014 a run for its money.
