I've come across a problem with OS X 10.8.2 and Unibeast 1.5.3. Seems that something has changed in 10.8.2 to cause this as the problem does not occur with 10.8.1
Symptom
Booting off Unibeast 1.5.3/10.8.2 USB, you see a cursor then beachball on a grey screen. This happens just before the language selection screen which never appears.
Workarounds
*Also applies if you have upgraded from a working 10.8.1 installation to 10.8.2.
Symptom
Booting off Unibeast 1.5.3/10.8.2 USB, you see a cursor then beachball on a grey screen. This happens just before the language selection screen which never appears.
Workarounds
- Disable VT-d in BIOS or
- Boot Unibeast USB with -x (I avoid this as I'm unsure if it will adversely affect installation) or
- Use Unibeast 1.5.3/10.8.1
- Language selection screen takes longer, up to 30 secs, to appear than 10.8.1 so be patient.
- It's related to VT-d in BIOS/CPU. VT-d must be disabled
- Occurs only with CPUs that supports VT-d so you would not see this problem if you're using e.g. a 3570k.
- I've only observed this on 2 motherboards: GA-B75M-D3V and Zotac Z77ITX-A-E
- Z77ITX-A-E/3770k (no VT-d setting in BIOS): 1.5.3/10.8.2: OK, 1.5.3/10.8.1: OK
- GA-B75M-D3V/3770 (VT-d enabled): 1.5.3/10.8.2: Beachball, 1.5.3/10.8.1: OK
- GA-B75M-D3V/3770 (VT-d disabled): 1.5.3/10.8.2: OK, 1.5.3/10.8.1: OK
