I've come across a problem with OS X 10.8.2 and Unibeast 1.5.3. Seems that something has changed in 10.8.2 to cause this as the problem does not occur with 10.8.1

Symptom
Booting off Unibeast 1.5.3/10.8.2 USB, you see a cursor then beachball on a grey screen. This happens just before the language selection screen which never appears.

Workarounds
  • Disable VT-d in BIOS or
  • Boot Unibeast USB with -x (I avoid this as I'm unsure if it will adversely affect installation) or
  • Use Unibeast 1.5.3/10.8.1
Notes
  1. Language selection screen takes longer, up to 30 secs, to appear than 10.8.1 so be patient.
  2. It's related to VT-d in BIOS/CPU. VT-d must be disabled
  3. Occurs only with CPUs that supports VT-d so you would not see this problem if you're using e.g. a 3570k.
  4. I've only observed this on 2 motherboards: GA-B75M-D3V and Zotac Z77ITX-A-E
  5. Z77ITX-A-E/3770k (no VT-d setting in BIOS): 1.5.3/10.8.2: OK, 1.5.3/10.8.1: OK
  6. GA-B75M-D3V/3770 (VT-d enabled): 1.5.3/10.8.2: Beachball, 1.5.3/10.8.1: OK
  7. GA-B75M-D3V/3770 (VT-d disabled): 1.5.3/10.8.2: OK, 1.5.3/10.8.1: OK

*Also applies if you have upgraded from a working 10.8.1 installation to 10.8.2.

Same problem happened.

GA-B75m-D3H/i5 3570

YOU ARE THE BEST !!!

Gygabyte GA-H55M-S2 + Core I3-540 with retail 10.7.5 + Chimera 1.11.1

try Mountain Lion 10.8 and 10.8.1 : OK

try Mountain Lion 10.8.2 : beachball !!

Read this topic and disabled option Virtualization Technology (not VT-d)

Reboot with 10.8.2 : Language selection screen appears.

Good.

I was having trouble for days until I read this and it works like a charm... Thanks
PS. I'm using the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5TH motherboard

Thank you!

I can confirm this worked on a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H.
