While this may have kinda been covered at various places i figured it would be nice to have here since Lion is out.Your Serial # will play a Part in how your system will be Displayed.....
ie.Early 2009 Mac Pro, Late 2010 Mac pro etc.....

This Diagram below breaks down how the Serial is structured
i39s3d.jpg

Here you can read a bit more about it.

I used Multibeast once to see what kinda serial i would get while selecting MP 4,1 5,1 and it tured out to be an imac serial  Again while this may have been fine in SL i think having the correct info may be a better option with Lion., Plus it's kinda cool and More Vanilla as they say
Below are some Codes that Myself & Users gathered that are for Mac Pro's,Imac's MBP's etc, So maybe other members can post codes which i can then Update here.....

By following the graph Above you can make your personal Serial but you must use these and any of the characters below as the last 3/4 in your serial.....
Mac Pro

4PC............Quad Core '09 2.66/2.93/3.33

How, would I go about changing mine from an early 08 version to a mid-2010? I'm fairly new to the mackintosh scene, and don't know how to actually edit my serial number. sorry. I'm running Lion 10.7

macpro 2010 the serial

YM051026GWR (of coarse you can change it to more match the exact date you built yours)

It's changed in your smbios.plist /Extra
<key>SMserial</key>
<string>Input here</string>

So what is the new PPP and CCCC

Beats me  as the Original page stated it was changed for the MBP's so i cant say.For instance this serial does not go according to the Graph but it displays as Mid 2010
H004319UEUG

I should also note that you should do this before you Install any Pro apps cause i know that FCP asked for a new serial while i was testing..........
I was hoping that more users would have Input cause this is just my searching an experimenting so any mistakes plz forgive me.......Bless

I forgot to post this link :shifty: But what you can do is enter the last 3 character's from the List or whatever you find to help you home in on the Model that best matches your hack.......

EUG > Mac Pro "Six Core" 3.33 (2010/Westmere) MacPro5,1
GWR > Mac Pro "Twelve Core" 2.66 (2010/Westmere) MacPro5,1
XYL > Mac Pro "Eight Core" 3.2 & Mac Pro "Quad Core" 2.8 MacPro3,1
 http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/

I'll put up the link in my 1St post as well........

sorry, but don't get this right .... and i'm actually afraid to change anything because it has happened that when i tried to use my Timemachine backup to re-install my system, it said "wrong version for this machine" - or something like that.

My 10.7 is working right, but there is a little beauty feature that is wrong .... as you see it says that i have a MacBook (13 inches, Mid 2007)

But in system specifications it says that model is Mac Pro 3.1
.... and also ??? it says that only have 4 cores ??? instead of 8 !!!

This explains (?) why i did get low score on Geekbench (10000) compared to my Snow (14000). Is this a issue that i can correct by using right serial ?

Any ideas what would be correct for me ?

Kari
