Tuf-est Love: G5 Afterlife

Tuf-est Love Afterlife

In this post I will be showing you the different stages of my G5 Mod. You will also be able to see how I have evolved as a modder. The reason It took me so long to come to my final result with my mod because I was never satisfied. Also because more and more people keep on posting great looking mods that looked better then mine and I really wanted to push myself to build something that I was happy and satisfied with (well I might never be satisfied). I will give a lot of credit to the most frequent users that post on the G5 thread and when you see my mod you can see all the ideas I used from them. Ok lets get to the parts/pictures I will be also commenting on them as we go and thanks for looking. Since tonymacx86 has taken some of his past hacks out of the closet over the last week, I thought it would be a good idea to show my progress with my 2012 build that still holds strong. Many hardware changes have been made and I would like to share them with you.

My first mod Rickyreall84 Uglllllyyyyy

Tuf Love Mod Still Ugly

Tuffer Love Mod Better….but bulky and full of metal

Tuf-est Love Now thats better!!

Now Tuf-est Love Afterlife best Yet!!!

Here is a Picture of my Corsair water cooler. The reason I purchased it because of the other corsair products I have in my computer. This also is showing my new corsair memory. I have it set to 1866MHz. I have had it overclocked but really didn't see too much of a performance increase. I also ended up switching out my black sleeving for white silverstone sleeves to make them pop and go with the Black/White theme. I really don't like to show flaws in my Hack but if you notice I have some rust on the side. I think the case is about 11 years old so I guess ill get around to fixing it. You can also see the sound foam pushed down because of the dust plastic thingy.

I used black velcro cut into triangles to mount the fans on the front if you look close you can see them (I used gorilla glue for better stickyness). I added the silverstone fan filters a while ago and it is one of my favorite features in my mod. It saves me a ton of time cleaning this bad boy. Maybe I will add A photo later on with how much dust these filters keep out. Although it might restrict some airflow I have not noticed to much increase in temps.

The original G5 HD caddy painted black. I had to cut the front of the caddy and remount the bracket on the top back more to push the caddy forward to place the motherboard behind it. The caddy is mounted with the original screws. The fractal 40mm fan was mounted using cut strips of black velcro (Gorilla Glue!!). I like the overall look of the fan and I basically bout it because it looked cool cause my ssds do not get hot, but if I plan on switching them out it might come in handy. The sata cables fit nicely behind the caddy and the Silvertone data power stripe is mounted on the top of the case to hide it (Velcro, Gorilla Glue)

All the Silverstone extensions are hiding behind the black plastic. I used ersterhernd mod for the reference. Also a very nice picture of my newer video card. Thats also the best picture of the new Airport/bluetooth combo. I will go into detail later with it later in the post.

I made a custom back panel for my Tuffer Love mod so i kept it. It was hard to fit the 120mm fan between the motherboard and case :(. I drilled out all of the original holes and put in the allen hex screws. Look at the huge antennas from my new adapter!!! damn huge.

Front :)

I used the original plastic dust thingy. I also used clear plastic to make the top panel to match. The bottom of the plastic is lined with black sprinkler hose cut with a razor to make it flush.

I took apart the dvd drive and painted the shell black to match my color theme. I also painted the bottom plate black to match which you can't see in this picture.

The computer is not really that loud but the reason I added the silverstone sound proofing was I broke my bottom plastic piece and I was to lazy to make a new one. I was lucky and had some black vinyl lying around in my garage and used to put the pieces back together without showing the crack all the way through it. The hardest part was installing the sound proof it wants to sticks to everything.

More Pictures Little or no comments

Man Cave!! Anyone interested the black thing on top of my mod is my 4 bay USB 3.0/Esata enclosure found here: http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-3-5-Inch-External-Enclosure-NST-640SU3-BK/dp/B007XJIYI6

Excellent!

When I looked at your 2005 G5 mod I was flabbergasted. I was very envious of your craftsmanship and I thought to myself (I need to step up my game) I owe a lot to you because you made me step up my skills soooo thanks!!!!

This is a work of art.
I see you have a sabertooth Z77 board. I think its one of the best looking ones out there. I wish people understood how easy these boards are to set up for osx after you flash the bios... how is yours running?

Really nice work!

I just have one thing to mention. The fans in the front might increase the noiselevel, because they are directly attached to the front mesh. A little more space (1cm) would be a good option.

Very nice indeed. I enjoyed your postings and the story line. Thank you for sharing.

Yeah I love the Sabertooth Z77 it runs very well I haven't flashed a different bios tho. I'm as new to hackintoshing as you can get but I've been pretty successful IMO.:D I also have a g5 mod, I was inspired by your previous build but this build is incredible.
