Which setting do you choose for TB3 ?
Hi! Thanks for replying!
Funnily enough, I figured this out at 10 to midnight last night, and my system now works! Well, it crashes on boot some of the time, and other times it boots OK.
If anyone is interested in my exact working config, please reply, and I'll break it down for you.
Well, I took a big plunge and bought the Focusrite RED 8pre audio interface, which uses Thunderbolt 2 to connect to the computer. I've gone through the full process detailed in Tony's post about activating Thunderbolt on my GA-Z170X-UD5 TH, and i can confirm that the interface is recognized by the drivers when i boot into macOS. The problem is, it doesn't actually work. The drivers start up and see the device, but instantly stop communicating with it - i can't play sound through it or anything. It's like it's getting disabled straight after login.
I'm using the apple thunderbolt 3 - 2 adapter, because it is far cheaper in the UK than the StarTech one. I can confirm it works perfectly in windows with this interface. Do you think it could be because i'm using the apple one instead of the StarTech one?
I'm running 10.12.3.
Really sad, probably gonna have to return it now . Unless anyone has any ideas i could try? I've been tearing my hair out for hours!
EDIT:
I just tried out a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter and used it to connect a Firewire hard drive - very similar thing, it sees it, mounts it, and works for a bit, but if i try to copy something to it, it gets 100mb in and then freezes. If someone can help me with this before i gotta return this audio interface i will LOVE them forever.
EDIT AGAIN:
I flipped the connection round between the apple TB 3 to 2 adapter and my mobo, it has resulted in everything working for 5 minutes after boot time instead... how weird is that? Is it possible my adapter is faulty? OR is the apple one simply not as good as the StarTech one for hackintosh for some reason? It would be strange though - it works perfectly in windows.
I read all this topic and I would like to know if anywhere already exist finished working instructions for following hardware:
1. GA-Z170X-UD5-TH
2. Bios F20
3. Samsung 960 PRO M.2 Internal SSD
4. i7-7700k - Kaby Lake
Thanks
Nevermind, @bkzdrpapi answered my question on this thread here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...ignare-ex-i7-6950x.214481/page-2#post-1473406thanks for this guide! The double FW update would have been tricky without this post. I got TB3 working my z170x build, but I'm having trouble on my x99 build. I followed these steps for that machine as well since Gigabyte had posted the same utilities, and was able to complete the firmware update and get TB3 on the PC side. Still not working in Sierra though. Have you tried this yet? Thanks in advance!
