Time Machine Server (Big Sur)

I just added an internal 8Tb drive to my desktop and I would like to share that over my network for other devices to backup to.

Can I do this without buying the server app?

Hi

You should be able to achieve this by sharing the drive on the machine, however you may be better off with a NAS type device unless you machine is going to be switched on 24-7.

Google Set up file sharing on Mac and you will find a page that shows you how to do it, not sure if I can link to the site.

Thank you I figured it out. I have a NAS that is too slow it's an old ReadyNAS 102. I wouldn't mind upgrading but this desktop works now.
