Time Machine Downgrade

Hi everyone!
I'm new to the world of hackintosh so this is my first OS update (I actually got Lion working last week). I have an external HDD for Time Machine, so I was wandering if I could downgrade using Time Machine from Mountain Lion to Lion, if something goes wrong (for example, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to have Wi-Fi in ML).
Plus, if I do a clean install, whether L or ML, can I load everything from the Time Machine HDD?

Pretty sure you can.
Boot into installer - choose restore from Time Machine.
Select time machine drive and the destination drive . . .
Cross fingers

Everything works fine in Mountain Lion, no need to downgrade.
