Thunderbolt Not Working on Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7-TH

Hello!

I'm new and I want to say that this is an amazing community to be a part of! It is really cool what everyone has accomplished by helping each other out!

My first Hack has been singing along splendidly for the last month. I use it professionally for audio engineering and some video editing. Everything is working perfectly EXCEPT for the Thunderbolt ports.

As others have suggested, I tried "waking" the Thunderbolt ports by installing Windows and installing the Intel Thunderbolt drivers to no avail.

I did preform the "Thunderbolt Slow Boot Fix" and I'm wondering if that could have some how stopped the drivers from loading.

My build is:
Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7-TH
Core i7-4790K
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
16GB RAM
IO Gear Bluetooth
Firewire PCIe Card
TP-Link PCI Express Wifi Adapter

I am running Mavericks 10.9.5 and I have tried two Thunderbolt Devices (one hard drive and one audio interface) and two Thunderbolt Cables.

Here are some screen shots of my system information.

I would greatly appreciate any help!

Did you get this working or try installing Yosemite 10.10? I am about to do this same install but instead will be installing Yosemite. I need this computer mainly for the thunderbolt ports so I can use my apollo quad audio interface.
Thanks!

Hey,

I've read somewhere that you have to install Windows and the Motherboard's drivers, then go back to OSX to get Thunderbolt working, although I never tried that because I'm still waiting for my Thunderbolt Inteface!:headbang:

I'm coming close to the close of my build with this system and motherboard for use with the new Apogee Thunderbolt Ensemble interface. I'm hoping it works, but have yet to test the interface with the computer, though have verified that I've gotten the Thunderbolt ports to function with external hard drives.

I'm a bit nervous, as Apogee has stated to me in their technical correspondence, regarding other matters, that the firmware for the new Thunderbolt interface is very much built around the thunderbolt drivers in the OSX software. I'm hoping these have remained intact and haven't been disrupted terribly during the CustoMac installation process. I have no reason to believe otherwise, nor do I have the technical ability in the field to understand if Multibeast or Chimera alter these in any way.

The basis for my concern is that, under my system report, it read that no Thunderbolt drivers have been loaded, despite a device being used actively on the port.

Because I noticed several of you in this thread were audio professionals, I thought I'd comment. Keep the rest of us posted, eh?

I'm also considering this build for the potential to use Thunderbolt for an Apogee Ensemble. Did you guys get this to work with your UAD Apollo and Apogee Ensemble?

Hey, guys I have been messing around with my build for about 2 weeks now. I work a ton so I don't have much time to just sit and perfect it, but I think I have found a great guide that will help you with your thunderbolt devices. GA-Z97X-UD7-TH build + install guide

I tried it my first time and the thunderbolt ports worked fine. Only downfall is it only works in legacy mode. I still haven't found a way to make it work via UEFI or Clover. If anyone has information on how to do that it would be great if you would share it  I have a gigabyte z97x UD7 TH motherboard as well as an apollo twin duo. I've been super anxious to get the apollo to work on this motherboard and I have had success with legacy mode. No success in UEFI mode yet. I've gotten both chimera and clover to run though with success and with 100% stability which impressed me very much. Now it's just a matter of finding out how to get little things to work like the apple store and the thunder bolt drivers. Also if you're thinking about running bootcamp forget about it. Install it on another hard drive and that will save you a lot of headaches.:banghead:

I was not able to get Thunderbolt to persist with this board on the latest BIOS (F6 I believe) with Yosemite, El Capitan or Sierra. I tried for weeks to no avail. It worked, but ONLY after booting into Windows. Upon shutdown of OSX, the Thunderbolt ports would disappear until I booted back into Windows again. Frustrating.

I gave up and opted for an ASUS Z97A/USB 3.1 with the Thunderbolt EXII add-in card and that works flawlessly.
