Hello there all!

This will be a year long project. Will be saving over the next year to get all the £ I need to build that machine I want. I have picked all the parts already, and through out the year will be changing the parts that have improved.

This is my first build and, once I have all the parts, I will be giving a full on detailed How To Build on here for all other first time builders to see how easy/hard it was to do.

The build is for a Mac that can juggle both gaming and AE/3D work (who hasn't heard this before?)

Most of my AE/3D work is done at my work place, but at home I do do personal projects, so I would like something with a bit of a kick. I will be putting Windows on another HD to play games, as well as playing some on OS X.

Currently, these are the parts I've picked NOT FINAL (see top (all from Amazon UK, not hunted for cheaper price yet or from Newegg))

Still looking at what CPU cooler to get, and WiFi cards, but that's something I can think about over the year. I'm thinking a 600W PSU would be enough.

I have build PC in the past, but have since switched to Mac machines. I'm going back to Custom Builds because I wanna be able to keep and upgrade my machine, rather than paying stupid amount each 5-7 years.

Any feedback would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Be cautious about that Corsair ram. You should make sure you pick ram from the manufacturers tested list; a lot of users have had issues with gigabyte boards and corsair ram. Corsair has also been removed from the Buyers Guide.

Ah ok, so Corsair are a big No, No!

I saw that Crucial are the RAM of choice here, never used them before, but I'll make sure I research that section of the build.

I'm running a Z87X UD4H with a 4770k and a couple of kingston extreme without any issue, I'm using the stock cooler and the 4770K at the stupid speed of 3.4GHz without turbo boost, because is enough for me now, I bought the 4770K so when I need more from my build the only thing I need to get is a biiiig piece of aluminum to get the beast cool enough. The automatic config was 3.7GHz+TB but I turn it down to work cooler, rare to see them get up to 50ºC with ~20ºC room temp. 60º in hot days and heavy audio processing.

RAM are running at 1333 but are capable of 1600, didn't tried it though. no complain about it.

Lots of rendering and 3D work, those things work up a sweat!

It's compatible with the MOBO I'm thinking of getting, and this Xeon chip will be great for the 3D work I do.
