This actually makes sense. No new laptops running Windows should have a 2.5" HDD as the boot drive. They are slower than molasses in January.
 
I had no idea anyone was still doing this.
 
Well, computer OEMs make little profit from selling PCs, unlike Apple, so they have to find all sorts of ways to save costs and/or get additional revenue. Using a HDD instead of a SSD of equivalent size is one way. Still remember the days when it was revealed that OEMs received payment for preinstalling all sorts of crap software on their PCs?

Besides, "this PC has a 1TB / 2TB drive" surely sounds better than "this PC only has a 128GB / 256 GB drive".

But of course I agree that nowadays personal computers should come with SSDs as boot devices. Personally I still use several large (>=8TB) hard disks in each of my own PCs with a smaller SSD as boot drive.
