Hello friends,
Has past a while since i didn't pulled my hair out, yet here I am.

So, with what to begin...
Using my intel i7-4790K on GA-Z97X-UD5H motherboard, sleeping function worked almost OOB, without disabling any "hibernationmode", without too much headache.
Now using the same intel on Asrock H97M-ITX/ac motherboard, drives me nuts. I've been reading so many threads, so many suggestions and trying out for 3 nights already, nothing worked. Everything ended with the same result:
Pressing "Sleep" button > waiting for around 10sec > HDD goes off | GPU fan starts spinning > trying to exit Sleep > machine/display won't respond. I have to restart...
If anyone experienced this, and managed to fix, or having more knowledge, please help me out.
Small *Note* BIOS Suspend to RAM = Auto (when Disabled, system won't go to sleep, but it responds when pressing the keyboard / display wakes, i don't need to restart)
Here's a list of all I've tried:
Disabling hibernationmode=0
Deleting sleep file
Pointing the sleep file towards /null
Disabling standby=0
Disabling autopoweroff=0
Deleting com.apple.PowerManagement from /Library/Preferences/ (didn't work, and new generated files made my IntelPM run crazy, i've "Put Back" the original files)

Clover Settings I've tried:

I'm currently switching from El Capitan 10.11 to 10.14 and also experience Sleep-Wake Problems. System goes to sleep, but can't be woken up again without a hard reboot.
But my installation has other problems too, like USB not loading the iPad and my Wireless-Card is semi-functional.
I watched your thread, so I can get back to you, when I find something out. I won't be able to have a look into it in the next few weeks. I'm still not sure, if I should wait untill 10.15.

Have you checked if AppleLPC.kext is loaded?
fire up Terminal and use kextstat
Then search for com.apple.driver.AppleLPC
If it is present, your Powerbutton should work. Otherwise try switching on FakeLP in Clovers Acpi-Settings.

I had the same problem: Hackintosh won't Sleep, Display won't Wake - High Sierra
A friend helped me and we fixed it half, which means display will awake if I press a key but system don't want to sleep (fans keep running etc).

So what I'm gonna describe was the solution for my system that I can wake up my display again.

Im running High Sierra 10.13.6
Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3
Intel i5 2500K (Intel HD 3000)
Nvidea GTX 1050Ti

It seems the problem is in the AppleMuxControl.kext file, which is located in AppleGraphicsControl.kext
We found out that Apple changed something in the AppleMuxControl.kext.
It seems that sometimes an older version will work.

In my case I run a Hackintosh High Sierra (10.13.6), but I needed an AppleMuxControl.kext from Sierra (10.12.6).
I'm lucky that I have a Macbook Pro with Sierra, so I could make a copy of AppleGraphicsControl.kext.

Here is what I did and what you can try:

1. I made a backup of the AppleGraphicsControl.kext file from OSX High Sierra (the system with the 'awake' problems)
Location: HD root > system > Library > Extensions > AppleGraphicsControl.kext

2. I copied this and putt it in a folder on the desktop named "Kext High Sierra 10.13"

3. Luckily I'm running Sierra on my macbook so could made a backup of the AppleGraphicsControl.kext
and putt it in a folder named "Kext Sierra 10.12". (If you don't have an older OSX running, you can download an older OSX installer and extract the kext file from the DMG with Pacifist)

4. Now we need to replace the newer AppleMuxControl.kext with an older version.

5. Go to the "Kext Sierra 10.12" backup folder, Ctr+Click on the AppleGraphicsControl.kext and show package content.
Go to: Content > Plugins > AppleMuxControl.kext. Select this file and press CMD+C.

6. Go to the "Kext High Sierra 10.12" backup folder, Ctr+Click on the AppleGraphicsControl.kext and show package content. Go to: Content > Plugins > and replace AppleMuxControl.kext by pasting it. (system will gives a warning, so choose "replace")

7. Use the Kext Utility app to replace the complete AppleGraphicsControl.kext pakkage into your system.
Start Kext Utility and drag the AppleGraphicsControl.kext into the window. Wait when it's finished.

This helped me to fix to prevent that my screen stays black when I want to wake up my display.

The only thing I want to know is how I can let my system turn into real sleep mode.
