Testing Thread: Skylake Platform in OS X

Is it okay if you use your pictures (with credit) in a guide for the GA-Z170X-UD3 board?

absolutely!

I think there are two more USB ports on the board HS02/SS02 and HS04/SS04 (at the SS01 and SS03 ports). My case has only one USB 3.0 socket so that's why it is just a guess. If someone could tell me for sure I'd add that to the picture.

Thanks for the report, Sabattoir. I have the same board and cpu. Would you mind zipping your clover folder so I can diff it with mine?

Which wifi card are you using? Additional kexts needed?

Maybe have a look here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/network/148852-solved-how-get-rid-athr-unknown-locale-21-errors.html

The important parts of the clover folder is attached.

The wifi card is a TP-Link TL-WDN4800. It just works.

I was thinking of that solution for the wifi but it looks like editing a kext and about that I'm not so sure I want to do.

Hmmm... this could be challenging... About to set out on a new Skylake build which will feature the following;-

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming G1 Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 EATX

Case: Antec Signature-s10

Extras: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Corsair RM 1000X Series 1000W Modular PSU
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...lar-power-supply-cp-9020094-uk-ca-211-cs.html

The motherboard intrigued me the most with its onboard 2 x Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2400 chips plus the Creative® Sound Core 3D chip, both of which Ive noticed some interesting kext hacks for. On top of that it brings me plenty of expansion resources with with 7 USB 3.0 ports (the White one can be used for USB BIOS flashing without a CPU or Memory Installed), a shared Keyboard / Mouse PS2 port, two USB 2.0 “Dac-Up” ports, two Wi-FI connectors (Killer™ Wireless-AC 1535), HDMI with future support for 2.0. Two USB 3.1, one Type-A and one Type-C (Type C is also Thunderbolt 3.0), the 7.1 Audio ports and a TOSLINK (Optical).

Considering its going to be a Win10 machine as well as hackintosh I'm kinda looking forward to trying to get this to work.

FYI The mob also supports

Storage Chipset:
- 2 x M.2 Socket 3 connectors
- 3 x SATA Express connectors
- 6 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (SATA3 0~5)
- Support for RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 10
* Refer to "1-13 Internal Connectors," for the supported configurations with the M.2,
SATA Express, and SATA connectors.Š Š 2 x ASMedia® ASM1061 chips:
- 4 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (SATA3 6~7, GSATA3 8~9), supporting AHCI
mode only

USB Chipset:
- 4 x USB 3.0/2.0 ports on the back panel
- 6 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 4 ports available through
the internal USB headers)
Š Š Chipset+2 Renesas® USB 3.0 Hubs:
- 7 x USB 3.0/2.0 ports (3 ports on the back panel, 4 ports available through
the internal USB headers)
Š Š Chipset+Intel® Thunderbolt™ 3 Controller:
- 1 x USB Type-C™ port on the back panel, with USB 3.1 support
- 1 x USB 3.1 Type-A port (red) on the back panel

If the sound doesn't work out on the Hack Ive got my trusty RME Fireface 800 paired to a 800 FW PCI card, a and networking Ive a compatible wireless card (TP-Link TL-WDN4800.) and a PCIe network card that will work.

I'll be using a Nvidia 980TI GFX card.

Wish me luck!

Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to your full guide.

Does anyone know of a supported PCI-E ethernet card?

I got one of these a week ago from Amazon and installed the kext from multibeast. Works fine so far. It uses RTL8168E.
TP-LINK TG-3468 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit PCI Express Network Adapter

How's it going? so far so good? I wish you have good luck for that since I want to build with skylake and the same MB with yours.

I can't wait your result!!

OK, thanks. I am going to get that one too then.

Edit: works like a charm :)

I can confirm that HS02 and HS04 exist (USB 2.0 device in front case USB 3.0 port connected to motherboard USB 3.0 headers), and I just assumed that SS02 and SS04 also exist.

I have been unable to inject the Type A and Type C 3.1 ports, as they are on another controller (and show up in IOReg with the same name), but I can confirm that a USB 2.0 device works in the Type A port without any injector.

Does anyone know of a supported PCI-E ethernet card?

If you can get your hands on an Intel 82574L based card, that should pretty much just work (just need to inject the device ID into the kext).

This one is confirmed to work and an injector already exist: Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter
