Overall my system is stable, but FCP X is a nightmare. Lot of pinwheels and the BruceX benchmark wants about a decade to complete. Does anyone have any thoughts?

From what I've seen/read, FCP runs better under 10.12.

I believe this is true. My Bruce X score went from 25 seconds to around 2 minutes between 10.12 and 10.13. The Nvidia drivers might be the culprit. I was using a GTX 970. I've since switched to an AMd RX580 and BruceX is now 16 seconds.

Thank you. I also concluded the problem is the nVidia card. I want to sell the 980 Classified and get two new AMD cards, but thanks to crypto mining the cost is absurd. The original msrp for the RX 580 was $200 but they now sell for 3-4x.

I know. I got mine from Newegg for $369 I think it was. I had to sign up to be notified when it came in stock, and they sold out very quickly. CDW said they were backordered until May.

The only card without an inflated price is the Vega Frontier. I’m debating getting that and later adding a second.

$999 on Newegg. :)
