I installed my H50 cooler on my i7 860
the temps were not to bad. i noticed that i didnt have the pressure bracket properly installed so i loosened it and readjusted the cooler so it was getting even pressure. but now that I moved the cooler and had to slightly turn it. im sure the thermal paste/sponge on the bottom of the cooler isnt sitting properly now as its probably overlapping.

I tested an overclock of 4ghz (20x200) and when i ran cputest temps were hitting over 80c which isnt really acceptable. IMO

so i need to get some new thermal paste and clean it up and reattach the cooler

Im not sure i will be able to find arctic silver.
does it really matter what paste i use..?
comparisons ive seen any show a few degrees difference between the good stuff and the not so good stuff.

Running my i7 860@ 3.8ghz
ok well my idle is 37-40-40-43 on my cores
on full load temps are 82-79-77-84 running cpu test for 5 min
still higher than i would really like but not terrible. IMO

Reseated my H50 Cooler added Artic MX-2 paste

Those temps in your second post sound about right imo. If you're unhappy with temps, either lower your clock or turn off HT (should drop your temps ~10 degrees). Did you get those under Prime95 or LinX? Also what's your Vcore at?

Edit: Try running 21x191 and leave your memory divider at 8. I bet that change shaves off a few degrees and it may even require a lower Vcore.

I think the temps listed above were after applying the MX-2
