Hi folks,

I am about to take the plunge and build a hackintosh. I have been an Apple users for about 7 years now. I have an iMac 2009 and I was hoping to upgrade to the new macbook pro. However the new design is doing nothing for me and as I use my computer for music production, I've decided to build as powerful a machine as I can for around 1500 - 1600 euro. That includes about 400 for a screen. I have been in IT support for 16 years so I think I can do this. I have however a couple of dumb questions what I would be really grateful if someone helped out on. I am using the November list and only buying recommended products.

First one,

Will an ATX motherboard fit in an iTX case? For example, I am looking this motherboard

Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3 ATX

https://www.amazon.es/dp/B015E3LTKW/?tag=tonymacx86c03-21

And this case

BitFenix Prodigy (Orange)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A3IZDFQ/?tag=tonymacx86-21

I should add, the only reason I picked that motherboard is because it is the first one recommended available in Europe.

My second question is

Is a 650w power supply considered more than adequate for most systems. I am going to run a Quad i7 6700, 16 Gigs of Ram and most probably a GeForce GTX 950.

I have a about 5 USB devices, mostly controllers and one synth.

I would jump at a 750w supply only the price jumps quite a bit with it.

Thanking you in advance

A 650W PSU is more than enough for a 950 and I7 CPU. No, the ATX board will not fit in that Prodigy case. I don't even think that @neilhart could pull that one off with a major mod to the case ! I'm sure you wouldn't want to try a mod anyway. Get an ITX motherboard to go in the Prodigy or get a bigger ATX case to go with a Z170X motherboard.

Here's the mod Neil did about 4 years ago. He used a mATX motherboard which is smaller than ATX.

@trs96 cheers for your response. I'm glad I asked. Cool, I just loved that case, I'll take a look at the recommended ITX boards. Checking out that mod now, looks awesome!

If you want a case that is designed to fit a microATX motherboard ( mid size betweeen ATX and ITX) take a look at this Aerocool case. http://www.aerocool.us/ds/ds_bk.html

I've done a build in one and had a good experience. Will give you more PCI-e slots for add in cards like a sound card.

That's a lovely case thanks. It's kind of similar so I think I'll go for it! I use a UAD Apollo firewire sound card so I'm going to have to get a compatible firewire card also. Seems there are a few suggestions in another thread. I would be lost without this forum!

Cheers, won't be over clocking, I want to build it and leave it sit. One of the reasons I went Mac originally was because my PC always had the side off and I was sick of messing around with it. I'll build this once and hopefully not need to touch it again for at least a couple of years.
