Hello Community. This is my first post here. Thanks to your helpful forum I was able to setup and configure an amazing new video editing machine and as of now it is running perfectly except for one small annoying feature which crashes the machine every time without fail.

Because of the trouble I had getting the graphics card to work I can only assume it is related to that hardware.

My issue is that every time I 'quick look' a video file in finder (ie. highlight it and press space bar) - the video will appear, highly distorted, play for .5 seconds and then halt the entire machine. Sometimes spinning colour wheel of doom, sometimes just complete crash. Every time without fail.

I have no issues opening movie files in quicktime, CS6 or otherwise - flawless!

However in finder, simply previewing the movie - it breaks the machine. Funnily it works fine when in the finder window, but expanding when hitting space bar = doom.

My specs:

Intel Core i7 3770 Ivy Bridge CPU
GA-Z77X-UP5-TH
Nvidia Geforce GTX650Ti

Any help troubleshooting this one annoying error would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

I am also experiencing this issue, it is pretty frustrating. I can also play video from other programs fine, however I did have the issue when PandoraJam tried to play a video ad. I kinda feel like it has something to do with a call to the integrated graphics processor, which I am not using. Can you confirm if you are also only using a discrete graphics card?

Edit: It has to be an issue with the Nvidia graphics driver or something in the MultiBeast installs related to it. We both have 6XX series Nvidia and a few people in other posts have had similar issues, still don't know what the fix is yet.

I got this graphics card to use as discrete card for processing with Video Editing software. I'm not sure if that applies to other functions ie. video files in Finder. But I figure that is where the issue is. I can only assume that using a discrete graphics card is the problem here.

If anyone knows how to configure settings to use intergrate graphics for low level video functions and keep discrete graphics to the heavy vidoe processing programs only that'd be ideal.

So I fixed my issue by installing a Mac Pro system definition instead of the one I was using. I had to remove the AppleTyMCEDriver.kext from /System/Library/Extensions because I was getting KPs on boot but other than that the issue is resolved for my build. Hope it helps you.

I have a very similar system to you, and had the exact same problem.

I switched my System Definition from a Mac Mini to a Mac Pro 3,1 and then rebooted. Working just fine now. (Thanks StBilyumChill!)

Hopefully you've gotten your machine working, but if not, give this a try.
